Ruins (2009)

1985年、英国の登山家2人、ジョーとサイモンは、標高が6600mもあり、前人未到の難所だったシウラ・グランデ峰の登頂に成功。だが下山途中にジョーが足を骨折してしまう。サイモンは、彼と自分の体をザイルでつないで下山を試みるが、再び予期せぬアクシデントが発生し、ジョーは氷の絶壁に宙吊りになってしまう。生と死の瀬戸際に立つサイモンは、覚悟を決め、2人をつなぐザイルをナイフで切断する決意をする。

身長120cmで最大のペンギンとして知られる皇帝ペンギン。愛らしい反面、彼らの生活、特に子育ては厳しい。南極に冬が近づくと彼らは他の生き物とは逆により寒い南へ向かう。敵が少ない極寒の氷原で繁殖を行なうためだ。求愛のダンスでパートナーを見つけたカップルは1つの卵を大切に温め合う。やがて母ペンギンたちは往復120日間をかけて餌を求める旅に出発するがその間、父たちは絶食したまま、ひたすら卵を守り続ける。
