天才科学者で富豪のエイドリアン(オリヴァー・ジャクソン=コーエン)の恋人セシリア(エリザベス・モス)は、彼に支配される毎日を送っていた。ある日、一緒に暮らす豪邸から逃げ出し、幼なじみのジェームズ(オルディス・ホッジ)の家に身を隠す。やがてエイドリアンの兄で財産を管理するトム(マイケル・ドーマン)から、彼がセシリアの逃亡にショックを受けて自殺したと告げられるが、彼女はそれを信じられなかった。
