木星の第2衛星エウロパの凍結した地表の下に海の存在が確認される。その中には、単細胞生命がいるかもしれないという情報も。そんな中、世界でもトップクラスの6人の宇宙飛行士がエウロパを調査することに。しかし、宇宙船では極めて深刻な故障が生じ、地球との交信も遮断されてしまう。閉塞的かつ危機的な状況下で、宇宙飛行士たちが探索を継続する。
平和な惑星であるアキーアが、残忍なサドルの宇宙軍に征服される。シャドという若者が宇宙船で逃れ、アキーア開放のために勇敢な戦士を探し、戦いに挑む。
The year is 2163. Starship Ikaria XB 1 embarks on a mission deep into space in search of alien life. During their perilous journey the crew confront the effects of a malignant dark star, the destructive legacy of the 20th century and, ultimately, the limits of their own sanity.
In the future, Earth is overcrowded and the population relies on distant bases to be fed. In the Saturn 3 station, Major Adam and the scientist Alex, who is also his lover and has never been on Earth, have been researching hydroponics for three years in the base alone with their dog Sally.
