Felix in Exile introduces a new character to the 'Drawings for Projection' series: Nandi, an African woman, who appears at the beginning of the film making drawings of the landscape. She observes the land with surveyor's instruments, watching African bodies, with bleeding wounds, which melt into the landscape. She is recording the evidence of violence and massacre that is part of South Africa's recent history. Felix Teitelbaum, who features in Kentridge's first and fourth films as the humane and loving alter-ego to the ruthless capitalist white South African psyche, appears here semi-naked and alone in a foreign hotel room, brooding over Nandi's drawings of the damaged African landscape, which cover his suitcase and walls. Kentridge has commented: 'Felix in Exile was made at the time just before the first general election in South Africa, and questioned the way in which the people who had died on the journey to this new dispensation would be remembered'.

1982年、南アフリカ共和国のヨハネスブルク上空に突如宇宙船が出現した。しかし、上空で静止した巨大な宇宙船からは応答や乗員が降りる様子はなく、人類は宇宙船に乗船しての調査を行うことを決定。知的生命体との接触に世界中の期待が集まる中行われた調査であったが、船内に侵入した調査隊が発見したのは、支配層の死亡と宇宙船の故障により難民となった大量のエイリアンであった。 乗船していたエイリアンたちは地上に移り、隔離地区である「第9地区」で難民として、MNU (英：Multi-National United) と呼ばれる超国家機関による管理・監視のもとで生活することになったが、文化や外見の違いから人間とエイリアン達との間では小競り合いが頻発する。人間達のエイリアンへの反発や差別は強まり、やがて彼等に対しては「エビ」（外見がエビ[=PRAWN]に似ているため）という蔑称が定着するようになった。 そして宇宙船出現から28年後、ついにエビ達を新たに用意された彼ら専用の居住区域である第10地区に移住させることが決定し、MNUの職員であるヴィカスは、立ち退き要請の同意を得るため第9地区を訪れるが、エイリアンの家で見つけた謎の液体を不注意により浴びてしまう。

南アフリカ人のティム・ジェンキンは、白人でありながら反アパルトヘイト組織「アフリカ民族会議」の隠密作戦をおこなった罪のより、同胞のスティーブン・リーとともにプレトリア刑務所に投獄される。ティム、スティーブンたちは、自由と平等を手にするため、最高警備を誇る刑務所からの脱獄を決意する。さまざまな脱獄方法を模索した結果、ティムたちが最後に選んだ手段は木片を集めた鍵を使った脱獄だった。鍵を作っては解錠を繰り返し、徐々に出口までの鍵が完成していった。投獄から18カ月、彼らは木鍵による鉄製扉の突破を試みる。
人間世界とよく似た、動物だけが暮らす世界。コアラのバスターが劇場支配人を務める劇場は、かつての栄光は過去のものとなり、取り壊し寸前の状況にあった。バスターは劇場の再起を賭け、世界最高の歌のオーディションの開催を企画する。極度のアガリ症のゾウ、ギャングの世界から足を洗い歌手を夢見るゴリラ、我が道を貫くパンクロックなハリネズミなどなど、個性的なメンバーが人生を変えるチャンスをつかむため、5つの候補枠をめぐってオーディションに参加する。
マンモスのマニーとエリーの娘ピーチの結婚式が迫っていた。一方ナマケモノのシドは相変わらず振られてばかりで、まだ恋人はできそうにない。そんなある日、巨大な惑星が地球に近づいてくる。このまま衝突すれば、地上の生き物は全滅しかねない。皆が不安に陥る中、イタチの冒険家バックは星のかけらがいつも同じ山のふもとに墜落することから、惑星が磁力に引き寄せられていると気付く。

南極にある皇帝ペンギンの国“エンペラー帝国”。彼らにとって何より大事なことは、自分だけの“心の歌”を見つけること。ところがマンブルは筋金入りの音痴で、小学校では幼なじみのグローリアが美声を披露するのとは対照的に調子外れな音程で大非難を浴びる始末。その代わり生まれつきタップダンスが得意なマンブルは、アデリー・ペンギンの５人組“アミーゴス”に踊りを絶賛され意気投合。しかし、そのダンスが帝国に災いをもたらすと判断した長老の命令でマンブルは追放の身に。さらに、ペンギンの食糧となる魚を乱獲する人間たちを説得しに向かった彼は、挙句に捕らえられてしまう。
幼くして国王である父を亡くしてしまい強欲な継母である女王によってお城に幽閉されながら育った白雪姫は次第に外の世界に憧れを抱いていった。 ある夜、お城で開催された仮面舞踏会に紛れ込んだ白雪姫はかつて森で出会った他国の王子アルコットと再会する。 共に惹かれ合う二人であったが、女王は王子の国の財産を狙って自分との政略結婚をたくらんでいた。 そして、自分の計画の邪魔になった白雪姫を森へ連れて行き殺してしまうようにと女王は側近に命令するのだった。 難を逃れた白雪姫は森の中で7人の小人と出会い剣術を学んでいく。女王の強欲な暮らしの為に貧しい暮らしを強いられている国民を目の当たりにした白雪姫は国民を救うため魔術を駆使する女王に果敢に立ち向かっていく。

A visual representation, in four parts, of one man's internalization of "The Divine Comedy." Hell is a series of multicolored brush strokes against a white background; the speed of the changing images varies. "Hell Spit Flexion," or springing out of Hell, is on smaller film stock, taking the center of the frame. Montages of color move rapidly with a star and the edge of a lighted moon briefly visible. Purgation is back to full frame; blurs of color occasionally slow down then freeze. From time to time, an image, such as a window or a face, is distinguishable for a moment. In "existence is song," colors swirl then flash in and out of view. Behind the vivid colors are momentary glimpses of volcanic activity.

The lives and interactions of four neighbours in an apartment building are seen simultaneously in four different rooms. Flatlife is an animated film created by Jonas Geirnaert in 2004 was chosen for the competition of short films at Cannes in 2004.
Four young men and a young woman sit in boredom. She smokes while one strums a lute, one looks at a magazine, and two fiddle with string. The door opens and in comes a young man, cigarette between his lips, a swagger on his face. The young woman laughs. As the four young men continue disconnected activities, the other two become a couple. When the four realize something has changed, first they stare at the couple who have kissed and now are dancing slowly. The four run from the house in a kind of frenzy and return to stare. The power of sex has unnerved them.
With the screen split asymmetrically, one part in positive, the other negative, the film documents the evolution of simple celled organic forms into chains of cells then more complex images from tribal cultures and contemporary modernist concepts. The images react, interpenetrate, perhaps attack, absorb and separate, until a final symbiosis (or redemption?) is achieved.
"I have not changed the editing structure. I have made the films printable. They are the first known fully collaged films, i.e., films made from found footage, and were done sometime in the ‘40s. Cornell combines Vaudeville jugglers, animal acts, circus performers, children eating and dancing, science demonstrations, mythical excerpts, and crucial freeze-frames of faces into a timeless structure, totally unconcerned with our usual expectations of “montage” or cinematic progression. He collects images and preserves them in some kind of cinematic suspension that is hard – impossible – to describe. This black and white short is not to be confused with the later color film, with same title, from 1968 (some sources indicate 1965).

Starting in the late 1930s, illustrator and experimental animator Douglass Crockwell created a series of short abstract animated films at his home in Glen Falls, New York. The films offered Crockwell a chance to experiment with various unorthodox animation techniques such as adding and removing non-drying paint on glass frame-by-frame, squeezing paint between two sheets of glass, and finger painting. The individual films created over a nine-year period were then stitched together for presentation, forming a nonsensical relationship that only highlights the abstract qualities of the images. —Kansas City Electronic Music and Arts Alliance

Soviet animation movie based on a Kazakh tale: a little bird fights against a three-headed dragon.
Its slow somnambulic rhythm, its animalistic jungle sounds as well as the eerily mixed images create a dream mood that comes closest to my actual dreaming-feeling. The long black phases between the sequences are as important as the images themselves because they leave empty space where the "echo" of the last image can seep through without interfering with the following image. But our logical mind still somehow feels compelled to construe some kind of sense, parallel, or some erratic story out of it.
This is one of the classic animations of the 1990s with its surreal tale of the struggle between the sexes. All the strains as well as the closeness of relationships are shown, the title referring to the repetition of the tensions throughout our lives. It also reveals the role the woman plays in a marriage and the need, though often not communicated properly, of the man for this companionship and support.
