アメリカ、ミズーリ州の田舎町エビングの道路に立ち並ぶ３枚の広告看板。それは７カ月前に娘を殺されたミルドレッド・ヘイズが、進展しない警察の捜査に腹を立て、エビング広告社のレッド・ウェルビーと契約した広告だった。ウィロビー署長は、看板を見つけたディクソン巡査から報せを受け、ミルドレッド宅を訪ねて捜査状況を丁寧に説明するが彼女は聞く耳を持たない。多くの町の人々はウィロビーを敬愛しており、ミルドレッドを説得しようとするが問題は深まるばかり。警察の捜査を進展させるはずが、孤立無援となっていくミルドレッド。ところが、ミルドレッドはもちろん、この広告騒ぎに関わったすべての人々の人生さえも変えてしまう衝撃の事件が起きてしまう。

30年間にわたり原因不明の地震が頻発する田舎町。そこで暮らし始めたフィービーは、祖父が遺した古びた屋敷で見たこともないハイテク装備の数々と〈ECTO-1〉と書かれた改造車を発見する。科学者だった祖父イゴン・スペングラーは〈ゴーストバスターズ〉の一員で、30年前にニューヨークを襲ったゴースト達をこの町に封印していた。地震の原因がゴーストの仕業だと突き止めたフィービー。「なぜこんな場所に封印を？おじいちゃんが死んだとき一体なにが？」…祖父がこの町に隠した秘密に迫ろうとしたその時、ゴースト達の封印が解かれ、町中にあふれかえる。いま、ゴースト達の復讐劇が始まる――
