Production I.Gがアニメーション制作を手がけた、漫画『ONE PIECE』初のアニメ作品。監督は谷口悟朗、キャラクター設定は原作者の尾田栄一郎。濱崎達弥によりノベライズもされている。 オレンジの町編とシロップ村編の間の出来事を描いたサイドストーリー。後に放送が始まったテレビアニメ版とは声優が異なり、ルフィを高乃麗、ナミを豊口めぐみ、ゾロを高木渉がそれぞれ演じている。 一般販売ソフト化はされていないが、週刊少年ジャンプ1999年1号 - 6号にて応募者全員サービスとしてビデオが配布された。

Max is particularly fascinated by Miraldo, the Romani guitarist he first heard in the bar, and asks to take guitar lessons with him (Miraldo is played by one of the greatest guitarists of gypsy jazz, Tchavolo Schmitt).
