12世紀。妻子を亡くして生きる目的を失ったフランスの鍛冶職人バリアンだが、彼の親と名乗り出たイベリンの領主、騎士ゴッドフリーに誘われ、ともにエルサレムへ出発。道中、ある事件で命を落としたゴッドフリーは騎士の称号をバリアンに譲り、エルサレムに平和と愛に満ちた国家を築くよう息子に託す。バリアンが若きエルサレム王ボードワン4世やその妹シビラ姫と出会う一方、キリスト教徒とイスラム教徒の対立は激化していく。

自分を暗殺者に仕立てあげたCIAの極秘プロジェクト、“トレッドストーン計画”などに関する取材を進めていた新聞記者ロスとロンドンで接触しようとしたボーン。しかし、CIAの現地要員に監視されていたロスは、若い暗殺者に狙撃されてしまう。
