It’s 1941 and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor has destroyed America’s morale. The US President Franklin D. Roosevelt then decides to risk it all by bombing Tokyo and raise more hope for his citizens. After completing its mission, a unit of the US Air Force is forced to make an emergency landing in China. Its commander Jack Turner (Emilie Hirsch) barely survives but gets rescued by Ying (Crystal Liu), a local widow who will stop at nothing to hide him from the Japanese occupant.

都会に出たものの馴染めないでいたいち子（橋本愛）は、故郷である東北地方の小さな集落・小森に戻ってくる。山に囲まれた小森の周辺にはスーパーやコンビニはないため、畑で農作物を作ったり、野山で季節のものを採ってきたりして、自給自足に近い生活をしなければならない。山の恵みを使って、夏にはグミジャムや岩魚の塩焼き、秋はくるみごはんや栗の渋皮煮などを作るいち子。もちろん自然には厳しさもある。季節の移ろいを感じ、ふと立ち止まって自分自身と向き合いながら、いち子はおいしいものを食べて次の一歩を踏み出す勇気を得ていく。

Paul (Macfadyen), a prize-winning war journalist, returns to his remote New Zealand hometown due to the death of his father, battle-scarred and world-weary. For the discontented sixteen-year-old Celia (Barclay) he opens up a world she has only dreamed of. She actively pursues a friendship with him, fascinated by his cynicism and experience of the world beyond her small-town existence.
