ベトナム戦争が真っただ中のサイゴン。アメリカ陸軍情報部のウィラード大尉にある密命が下される。それは、カンボジアに特殊任務で赴いたままジャングル奥地に自らの王国を築き、カリスマ的な存在と化した危険人物カーツ大佐を暗殺せよ、というもの。任務を全うすべく、ウィラード大尉は4人の部下とともに哨戒艇に乗り込み川をさかのぼる。道中、極限状態に晒され続けた彼らは幾多の異常な世界を体験していく。やがて彼らはついに、ジャングルの奥深く、カーツ大佐が潜伏する“王国”へと辿り着くのだった。

ベトナム戦争からほぼ半世紀。ともに戦った4人の黒人退役軍人が、隊長の亡骸と埋められた金塊を探し出すために戦場へと舞い戻る。スパイク・リー監督作品。

ペンシルベニア州で育ったマイケル、ニック、スティーヴンは、鹿狩りを楽しむ普通の若者であった。3人は戦況が悪化する一方の北ベトナムへと召集され、前線に放り出された。そこで偶然再会した3人はベトコンの捕虜となり、賭けの対象として実弾入りのロシアンルーレットを強制される。辛くも生き延びた3人だったが、お互い行方がわからないまま時は過ぎる。その後マイケルは、陸軍病院にいたスティーヴンから、ニックがベトナムで生きているという情報を得る。

1965年、サイゴンにやって来た米軍放送の人気DJを通して間接的にベトナム戦争を描いた人間ドラマ。実在のモデル、エイドリアン・クロナウアーに扮したR・ウィリアムスのマシンガン・トークによる破天荒なDJぶりが痛快。ベトナム戦争ものとしては番外編に位置するが、戦場からの視点ではない所が興味深い。

戦火に包まれるベトナムを舞台に、三角関係の悲痛な恋愛を描いたグレアム・グリーン原作の『おとなしいアメリカ人』の映画化。監督が『今そこにある危機』のフィリップ・ノイスだけに、スリリングな社会派サスペンスに仕上がっている。

警官相手に戦い服役中だったランボーは、元上官トラウトマンから特殊任務に就くことを条件に釈放された。特殊任務とは、ベトナム戦争で行方不明になったアメリカ人兵士と捕虜の動向を調査すること。戦闘は一切不要で、情報収集だけの任務だった。ところが捕虜収容所で米兵の拷問を目撃したランボーは、指令に背いて米兵を救出。その後、彼らは国境近くまで逃げ延びるが、米軍のヘリコプターはふたりを見殺しにして去ってしまう。

元グリーンベレーでありベトナム戦争から帰還したジョン・ランボー。戦争は終わり、たった一人生き残った戦友を訪ねた帰り道、ふらりと田舎町に立ち寄ったが、汚らしい風来坊という見た目だけで保安官にいわれの無い嫌がらせを受け、無実でありながら不当逮捕されてしまう。保安官事務所内で静かに抵抗するランボーだったが、監禁され暴行されるうち次第に戦場でかつて経験した過酷な拷問の苦痛が蘇り警官達をあっという間に打ちのめしそのまま逃亡してしまう。追われるランボーだが逃げ込む先は彼のグラウンドである山の中。ゲリラ戦で培った戦闘技術で追跡する保安官全てを圧倒的に屈服させるが、ランボーの逃走はマスコミ、州警察、軍を巻き込み次第に大事になってゆく。

2011年3月11日。岩手県釜石市は雪まだ残る初春の穏やかな午後のひとときを何事もなく送っていた。 午後2時46分31秒、東日本を中心に巨大地震が発生。その後、東北太平洋岸に最大40メートルの巨大津波が襲い、釜石市も壊滅的な打撃を受ける。 釜石市役所職員の平賀は上司に命じられ、部下の照井、及川と共に仮設の遺体安置所となった元小学校体育館の管理を任される。また、医師の下泉は検死、歯科医の正木は身元特定のため遺体安置所で働くことになる。 それぞれが慣れない作業に戸惑う中、消防団や警察、自衛隊により次々と犠牲者が搬送されてくる。震災の想像を絶する惨状と膨大な犠牲者の数に誰もが言葉を失い、余震、停電、物資不足といった過酷な状況に感情や感覚を麻痺させていく。行方不明となった家族を探す人々は泥まみれのブルーシートに発見されたままの姿で乱雑に並べられた犠牲者の扱いに憤りの声をあげる。 市の民生委員で葬儀社での勤務経験のある相葉はそんな遺体安置所を訪れ、ナンバーで呼ばれ無残に扱われる犠牲者に言葉を失う。すぐさま市長の山口に頼み、ボランティアとして安置所の運営を切り盛りし始める。 遺族に優しい言葉をかけ、遺体に語りかけ、心をこめ丁重に扱おうとする相葉の姿に最初は戸惑いと違和感を感じていた人々は少しずつ彼の言葉に耳を傾けるようになっていく。 「遺体は話しかけられると人としての尊厳を取り戻す」、「やるべし」 深い悲しみを抱えながら、過酷な現実に立ち向かう人々の姿をありのままに描いたヒューマンドラマ。
