When the family gathers for Mona's wedding, an insane bureaucracy jeopardizes the ceremony.

At age 42, Rafael Belvedere is having a crisis. He lives in the shadow of his father, he feels guilty about rarely visiting his aging mother, his ex-wife says he doesn't spend enough time with their daughter and he has yet to make a commitment to his girlfriend. Vera and Tim are successful young professionals. Everything changes one night when Tim hits a young Kalmyk immigrant to Moscow, Uloomji, with his car. The two men begin a affair while Vera struggles to comprehend their bond and her boyfriend's erratic behavior. She is dragged reluctantly into a love triangle.

The story takes place in northern Italy in the 1950's. Lola and Masetto are about to get married. Masetto wants to keep Lola as a virgin until they are married. But Lola is impatient to remain in chastity until the wedding night. She wants to be sure that Masetto is a good lover, before she commits herself into marriage. She does everything to trick Masetto into breaking the moral tradition.

When two brothers organize the robbery of their parents' jewelry store, the job goes horribly wrong, triggering a series of events that send them and their family hurtling towards a shattering climax.

“FEAR　AND　DESIRE”（52）に続くスタンリー・キューブリックの長編第2作で、商業映画としてはデビュー作にあたる。うらぶれたボクサーが、向かいのアパートに住む女を情夫の手から救い出そうとするというだけの物語だが、低予算の中で凝りまくった映像と、しがない男女のふれあいが切なく描かれている小品である。
