「アメリカン・スナイパー」「ハドソン川の奇跡」の巨匠クリント・イーストウッド監督が、2015年にフランスの高速鉄道で発生した銃乱射テロ事件で、犯人を勇敢に取り押さえて大惨事を阻止したアメリカ人青年３人の英雄的行為を映画化した実録ドラマ。幼なじみの若者アンソニー、アレク、スペンサーの３人が、旅行中に遭遇した無差別テロにいかにして果敢に立ち向かうことが出来たのか、その知られざる真実の物語を、彼らの子ども時代からの半生と、緊迫の事件のリアルかつ詳細な再現を通して明らかにしていく。また３人の主人公のほか、事件が起きた列車に偶然乗り合わせていた乗客たちの多くが本人役として本作に起用され、劇中で自らを演じるという前代未聞のキャスティングも話題に。
1945年、神戸は大空襲に見舞われ、清太は心臓の悪い母を先に防空壕へ避難させ、幼い妹節子を連れて後を追う。空襲の後、避難所である学校に着いた清太だったが、そこには、全身にやけどを負い瀕死の母の姿があった。母はそのまま息を引き取り、清太は節子と共に西宮にある叔母の家に間借りするが、次第に清太たちを厄介者扱いするようになる。嫌味を言われ、ご飯も満足に食べさせてもらえない生活に耐え切れなくなった清太は、家出を決意し、節子と２人で池のほとりの横穴での生活を始める。
The film centers on a big Polish family. Jadzia is the mother and the ruler of the Pzoniak family (she has five children). Though she's happily married to Bolek, she is also having a long-time affair with Roman. Her young daughter Hala is having an affair with neighbour cop Russell and becomes pregnant by him. Russell is pressed hard to marry Hala.
An unemployed construction worker heading out west stops at a remote farm in the desert to get water when his car overheats. The farm is being worked by a group of East European Catholic nuns, headed by the strict mother superior, who believes the man has been sent by God to build a much needed church in the desert.
