イギリスの女性小説家バージニア・ウルフの「ダロウェイ夫人」をモチーフに、3つの時代、3つの場所で暮らす女性たちの1日を繊細に描いた人間ドラマ。1923年、ロンドン郊外。作家ヴァージニア・ウルフは病気療養のためこの地に移り住み、『ダロウェイ夫人』を執筆していた。午後にはティー・パーティが控えている…。1951年、ロサンジェルス。『ダロウェイ夫人』を愛読する妊娠中の主婦ローラ・ブラウンは、夫の望む理想の妻を演じることに疲れながらも、夫の誕生パーティを開くためケーキを作り始める…。2001年、ニューヨーク。『ダロウェイ夫人』と同じ名前の編集者クラリッサ・ヴォーンは、親しい友人でエイズ患者の作家リチャードが栄えある賞を受賞したことを祝うパーティの準備に取りかかっていた…。

Ａ・タルコフスキーの作品は様々な映像の断片がコラージュされたようなものばかりである。この「鏡」もまたそうであり、彼の自伝的要素を持つというが、解るような解らないような……。でもその数々の映像はどれもこれもかっこ良く、戦争の記録フィルムらしきものも出てくる。物語などの存在は忘れてただひたすら映像の中で泳ぐような感覚で、なんとも美しい一本だ。

Martin (Joe Newton) is a casualty of society. He is under appreciated and overworked as a salary man in the city. With mounting pressure on his shoulders, he experiences a breakdown at work and loses his job. After visiting his childhood home to collect some possessions, he opts not to go home but instead chooses to live off grid in the vast woodland. Here he attempts to survive, to try and find himself again, through being amongst nature and his love of writing poetry.

The film follows Manuel Maria du Bocage, 18th-century poet, as he travels through the world from orgy to orgy and from excess to excess.
