荒事からは足を洗っていたウィリアム・マニーの元へ若いガンマンが訪れる。娼婦に傷を負わせ賞金をかけられた無法者を追うためだ。マニーのかつての相棒ネッドを加えた3人は追跡行に出かけるが、その頃、町の実力者の保安官ビルは疎ましい賞金稼ぎたちを袋叩きにしているところだった。やがてビルの暴力が黒人であるネッドにも及んだ。

不況時代のアメリカ30年代に実在した男女二人組の強盗、ボニーとクライドの凄絶な生きざまを描いた、アメリカン・ニューシネマの先駆け的作品。ケチな自動車泥棒だったクライドは、気の強いウェイトレスの娘ボニーと運命的に出会い、コンビを組んで強盗をやりはじめる。二人は順調に犯行を重ねていくが……。アカデミー賞2部門を受賞（助演女優賞エステル・パーソンズと撮影賞）した。

アメリカ各地で強盗殺人を繰り広げたゲッコー兄弟は、警察の追及を振り切るべく、メキシコを目指して逃亡を続けている。牧師を辞めて放浪の旅をしていたフラーとその一家は、たまたま立ち寄ったモーテルでゲッコー兄弟に誘拐され、国境を突破するための隠れ蓑に利用される。メキシコに到着した一行は、兄弟が現地の組織の使者と落ち合う予定のナイトクラブ「ティッティー・ツイスター」で一夜を過ごすことになるが、そこは吸血鬼の巣窟と化していた。かくして、夕暮れから夜明けまでの戦いが始まる。
