1960年代の保守的な家庭で、5人兄弟の４男として育ったザック。「特別な子」と呼ばれた彼は、軍で働き音楽を愛する父親と過保護気味の母親、それぞれ文武に秀でた兄2人、問題だらけの次男を観察しながら幼少期を過ごす。やがて思春期に足を踏み入れる1970年代。ザックは同性に惹かれ始めた自らのアイデンティティと、男らしくあれという父親の価値観の間でもがくようになる。
