マペットの少年ウォルターは、地方で人間の兄ゲイリーと暮らしている。大人になったゲイリーは恋人メアリーと旅行でLAに行くことになり、同行することになったウォルターは大ファンであるTV番組「マペット・ショー」のスタジオを見られると大興奮。しかしスタジオはもう使われていなくて荒れ果て、石油王の陰謀で解体の危機に直面していた。ウォルターたちはスタジオを守ろうと、引退したマペットのカーミットを訪ねる。
