幼なじみの親友、レイフとダニー。米陸軍の航空隊に入った2人は隊でも一、二を争う実力派パイロットに育つ。レイフは美しい看護師イヴリンと出会って恋に落ちるが、欧州の戦場へひとり旅立つ。その一方、ダニーとイヴリンはハワイに転属。レイフが戦死したとの知らせにイヴリンは落ち込むが、ダニーと恋することで立ち直る。だが実はレイフが生きていたと判明し、3人の間には気まずい空気が。そこへ日本軍が真珠湾を奇襲する。
