フランソワ・トリュフォーの長編第一作。アントワーヌ・ドワネルはパリの下町に住む13歳の少年。学校ではいつもいたずらばかりして先生に目をつけられている。共稼ぎの両親は、夫婦仲が余りよくなく何かと口論ばかりしていた。そんなある日、遊ぶ金に困った彼は父の会社のタイプライターを盗んで質に入れようとしたが、すぐにバレてしまい、両親は彼を少年鑑別所に入れてしまう……。

金持ちの妻と結婚して退屈な毎日を送っていたフェルナンドは、再会した昔の愛人マリアンヌと一晩を過ごす。翌朝、部屋には首に鋏を突き立てられた男の死体があった。

The last of Rohmer's Six Moral Tales. Frederic leads a bourgeois life; he is a partner in a small Paris office and is happily married to Helene, a teacher expecting her second child. In the afternoons, Frederic daydreams about other women, but has no intention of taking any action. One day, Chloe, who had been a mistress of an old friend, begins dropping by his office. They meet as friends, irregularly in the afternoons, till eventually Chloe decides to seduce Frederic, causing him a moral dilemma.

Paul, however, is disillusioned by the growing commercialism in society, while Madeleine just wants to be successful. The story is told in a series of 15 unrelated vignettes.

A committed film director struggles to complete his movie while coping with a myriad of crises, personal and professional, among the cast and crew.

Claude Massoulier is murdered while hunting at the same place as Julien Vercel, an estate agent who knew him and whose fingerprints are found on Massoulier's car. As the police discover that Marie-Christine Vercel, Julien's wife, was Massoulier's mistress, Julien is the prime suspect. But his secretary, Barbara Becker, while not quite convinced he is innocent, defends him and leads her private investigations.

Cinephile slackers Franz and Arthur spend their days mimicking the antiheroes of Hollywood noirs and Westerns while pursuing the lovely Odile. The misfit trio upends convention at every turn, be it through choreographed dances in cafés or frolicsome romps through the Louvre.
