フランソワ・トリュフォーの長編第一作。アントワーヌ・ドワネルはパリの下町に住む13歳の少年。学校ではいつもいたずらばかりして先生に目をつけられている。共稼ぎの両親は、夫婦仲が余りよくなく何かと口論ばかりしていた。そんなある日、遊ぶ金に困った彼は父の会社のタイプライターを盗んで質に入れようとしたが、すぐにバレてしまい、両親は彼を少年鑑別所に入れてしまう……。

金持ちの妻と結婚して退屈な毎日を送っていたフェルナンドは、再会した昔の愛人マリアンヌと一晩を過ごす。翌朝、部屋には首に鋏を突き立てられた男の死体があった。

独軍の占領下にあったフランスの田舎で敵兵と密通して断罪された過去を持つ女優が、ロケのために広島を訪れ日本人の建築家と一日限りの情事に耽ける。そして知る、広島の悲劇。時あたかも8月6日。原水禁運動を背景に二人の孤独な会話が続く。焦土から奇跡の復興を遂げたその町は、死の影を決して忘れることはない…。

In the afternoons, Frederic daydreams about other women, but has no intention of taking any action. One day, Chloe, who had been a mistress of an old friend, begins dropping by his office. They meet as friends, irregularly in the afternoons, till eventually Chloe decides to seduce Frederic, causing him a moral dilemma.

A bored young man meets with his former girlfriend, now a cabaret dancer and single mother, and soon finds himself falling back in love with her.

His sweetheart Christine's father lands Antoine a job as a security guard, which he promptly loses. Stumbling into a position assisting a private detective, Antoine falls for his employers' seductive wife, Fabienne, and finds that he must choose between the older woman and Christine.

Paul, a young idealist trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life, takes a job interviewing people for a marketing research firm. He moves in with aspiring pop singer Madeleine. Paul, however, is disillusioned by the growing commercialism in society, while Madeleine just wants to be successful. The story is told in a series of 15 unrelated vignettes.

活字の存在しない未来の管理社会を描いたレイ・ブラッドベリの小説を映画化。主人公モンターグは禁止されている書物の捜索と焼却にあたる有能な消防士だったが、クラリスという女性と知り合った事から本について興味を持ち始める。やがて読書の虜となった彼の前には妻の裏切りと同僚の追跡が待っていた……。

ゴダール監督による、ショッキングで不条理な文明批判映画。都会の生活に疲れた一組の男女が、土曜日の朝、田舎へ向けて週末旅行に車で出かける。だが、途中で出会うのは、同じ目的で郊外へ出ようとする車の渋滞。やがて、彼らは集団ヒステリー状態になり、信じられない事件が連続する。セスナが墜落し、人肉を食べる者までが出る始末。この狂気の宴はいつまでも続き、彼らの週末は絶望的なものになるのだった。

ジュールとジムは、情熱的で奔放な女性カトリーヌに恋をする。ジムへの想いを胸に秘めたままジュールと結婚した彼女だが、ジムとの再会で再び二人に愛の炎が燃え上がる。しかし、小さな食い違いでジムは彼女から離れていく。ある日出かけた河岸で、カトリーヌはジムをドライブに誘い、壊れた橋に向かってスピードを上げた。 三角関係の心理を見事に描いた本作は、ジャンヌ・モローの輝くばかりの美しさが圧倒的な魅力となった一遍。

ゴダール版“カルメン”の映画化で彼自身も精神衰弱気味のカルメンの伯父役として登場している。物語は銀行強盗団の一人カルメンと、彼女を追っていた警察官との禁断の愛を描く。なおこの年“カルメン”の映画化が頻発したのは原作者ビゼーの著作権が切れたため。(allcinema)

「ベトナムから遠く離れて」など、主に記録映画を活動の場としヌーヴェル・ヴァーグの中でも特異な位置を占める作家C・マルケルが全編スチール・カットで撮った中編SF映画の佳作。人類が絶滅した未来からその原因となった出来事を探るため過去にタイムトラベルした男は一人の女性と知り合う。何故か見覚えのあるその女性と行動を共にするうち、彼は幼いころ飛行場で彼女を見たことを思い出す。二人はやがて全ての出来事の根源となる飛行場へとたどり着くのだが……。
