冒険好きの少年明夫とトムは、不時着した無人宇宙船に乗り込み、太陽を挟んで地球と反対側にある第10惑星に連れ去られてしまう。彼らを迎えた第10惑星人は一見友好的に見えたが、やがて本性を現わし、地球侵略のため少年たちの脳を食べて情報を得ようとする。そこへ地球からガメラが飛来、明夫たちは危ないところを救われる。だが、第10惑星人が繰り出した大悪獣ギロンの猛攻で、さしものガメラも深手を負ってしまう。

物語の始まりは、テレビスペシャル『ドラゴンボールZ たったひとりの最終決戦〜フリーザに挑んだZ戦士 孫悟空の父〜』で描かれたサイヤ人の故郷である惑星ベジータ崩壊の時まで遡る。 サイヤ人の中から伝説の超サイヤ人が現れ、いずれ自分の脅威となることを危惧したフリーザは、惑星ベジータもろともサイヤ人を皆殺しにしようとしていた。ただ1人そのことに気付いたバーダックは単身フリーザに挑むも返り討ちにされてしまう。ちょうどその頃、惑星ベジータからバーダックの息子・カカロット（後の孫悟空）を乗せた宇宙ポッドが辺境惑星に発射されていた。フリーザの兄であるクウラ一味はその一部始終を映像で見ていたが、地区を任されたフリーザの不注意でポッドを見落とした以上、弟自身が始末をつけるべきとして見逃した。 その20数年後、フリーザがサイヤ人に敗れたことを知ったクウラは、そのサイヤ人を滅ぼすためにクウラ機甲戦隊を引き連れて地球へと向かうのだった。 一方フリーザを撃退し、無事地球に帰還した孫悟空とその仲間たちは、山へキャンプに出かけていた。そこへ突如襲いくるクウラ機甲戦隊と戦う悟空だったが、一瞬の隙を突かれてクウラの光線を受けて息子の孫悟飯と共に滝つぼに沈み、悟空は重傷を負ってしまう。父を救うため、カリン様から仙豆をもらった悟飯は、機甲戦隊の猛攻に遭いながらもピッコロの助力を得て無事仙豆を届ける。しかし仲間のクリリンともども、機甲戦隊のサウザーに倒され、ピッコロでさえもクウラにやられてしまう。 無事全快した悟空は、ついにクウラと激突する。しかし、弟フリーザより1回多く変身できるクウラの最終形態に成す術が無い。その時、悟空の怒りが限界を超え、ついに悟空が超サイヤ人に目覚める。

田舎の山荘で遊んでいたサムと息子トニー。だが突然謎の光が現れ、サムは姿を消してしまった。以来、トニーはサムが光に連れて行かれる悪夢を見続けていた。 3年後、山中に墜落したUFOから謎の生命体が現れ、近くに住む女性を襲い、腹部から触手を出して女性の体内に何かを産みつける。やがて女性は苦しみもがき、腹部が膨れ上がって体内から一人の成人男性が誕生する。それは紛れもなく３年前行方不明になったサムだった…
