Nevertheless, the usherette/leading actress doesn't give up; She looks for him, finds him and supports him, psychologically and morally, until he makes a comeback to the stage and their love nest.

東ケ丘中学校2年1組では前学期、野口という男子生徒がいじめによる自殺未遂を起こしていた。野口は家がコンビニのため、“コンビニくん”とあだ名され、店の商品を級友たちに渡していた。遺書にはいじめをしていた3人の名前が記されていたが、公表されなかった。野口は転校し、コンビニは閉店した。そして担任の高橋は休職した。新学期初日。2年1組に、村内（阿部寛）という吃音の臨時教師がやってくる。村内は野口の机を教室に戻し、誰もいない席に声を掛ける。教師たちは事件を解決するため、生徒たちに反省文を書かせていた。それで野口のことを忘れようとしていた生徒たちは、村内の行動に動揺する。村内は毎朝、野口の机に声を掛け続けた。それは生徒だけでなく、ほかの教師や保護者にも波紋を広げていく。生徒の1人、園部真一（本郷奏多）は級友にけしかけられ、1度だけ野口にポテトチップを頼んだことがあった。園部はそのことで深く傷つき、遺書には自分の名前が書かれていたと思い込んでいた。村内が赴任して1ケ月が過ぎたある日、園部は村内に、自分の思いをぶつける。野口はいつもおどけていて、商品を頼まれると嬉しそうに必ず要求以上の品を持ってきたが、実は自分に助けを求めていたのではないか、と。村内は吃音を振り絞るように、人が生きていく上で負うべき責任について語り始める。そして、村内が学校を去る日がやってくる。
