金と名声を得るため、中国へと赴いた白人の傭兵のウィリアムとトバールは、ようやく万里の長城にたどり着き、そこで思いも寄らぬ光景を目の当たりにする。長城では、完全武装した大軍団が、敵を迎え撃つべく臨戦態勢に入っていたが、そこへ巨大な地響きとともに、はるか山の向こうから、未知の怪物の大群が怒濤のごとく押し寄せてきたのだった。その恐るべき正体は、60年に1度現われるという伝説の怪物“とうてつ”だった。
