空想好きのサラは、女優を夢見る15歳の少女。ある土曜、両親が連れ立って外出し、彼女はまだ赤ん坊の弟トビーの世話を頼まれる。ぐずるトビーに、サラが愛読書の「ザ・ラビリンス〈迷宮〉」を読んで聞かせると、なんとトビーの部屋の片隅から突然黒い影が動き出し、“迷宮”の魔王ジャレスが現われる。ジャレスはトビーをさらうと姿を消してしまい、サラは後を追って数々の罠が待ち受ける迷宮へと足を踏み入れる。

『エスカフローネ』（Escaflowne）。2000年6月24日公開。サンライズと韓国企業との初の正式製作&出資で作られた日韓米合作アニメーション映画。TVシリーズが韓国で高視聴率を取り韓国側からのオファーで映画化が実現した。製作総予算は3億円。設定、ストーリーを大幅に変更し声優も一部入れ替えられた完全な新作映画として製作された。日本では一般公開ではなくシネマコンプレックス企業と組む変則的な公開だったため興行収益が振るわなかったが、その後本格的なアニメーション映画として各国で公開された。 ストーリー 生きる理由を見失っていた女子高生のひとみは、ある日異世界ガイアへと連れて行かれ翼の神と呼ばれるようになった。黒竜族と戦うアレン率いるアバハラキの一団と同行することになったひとみは、黒竜族の総帥フォルケンの弟であり、竜の鎧エスカフローネを動かせる竜族の末裔バァンという青年と出会い惹かれるようになる。
