魔女に呪いをかけられたために子供のいない夫婦は、魔女から「子を授かりたければ、四つのアイテムを森から持ち帰るのだ」と命令される。夫婦は赤いずきん、黄色い髪、白い牛、黄金の靴を手に入れるべく森へと出発する。

貿易商を営む父親が再婚し、継母とその連れ子である姉妹ドリゼラとアナスタシアと暮らすことになったエラ（リリー・ジェームズ）。だが、父親が不慮の事故で命を落とし、それを機に継母と義理の姉妹からつらく当たられ、召使いのように扱われる毎日を送る。勇気と優しさが魔法の力になるという亡き母の教えを胸にひどい仕打ちに耐えてきたエラだったが、ついにこらえきれずに家を飛び出してしまう。森へと馬を走らせた彼女は、城で働いているという青年キット（リチャード・マッデン）と出会い、心惹（ひ）かれるが……。

幼くして国王である父を亡くしてしまい強欲な継母である女王によってお城に幽閉されながら育った白雪姫は次第に外の世界に憧れを抱いていった。 ある夜、お城で開催された仮面舞踏会に紛れ込んだ白雪姫はかつて森で出会った他国の王子アルコットと再会する。 共に惹かれ合う二人であったが、女王は王子の国の財産を狙って自分との政略結婚をたくらんでいた。 そして、自分の計画の邪魔になった白雪姫を森へ連れて行き殺してしまうようにと女王は側近に命令するのだった。 難を逃れた白雪姫は森の中で7人の小人と出会い剣術を学んでいく。女王の強欲な暮らしの為に貧しい暮らしを強いられている国民を目の当たりにした白雪姫は国民を救うため魔術を駆使する女王に果敢に立ち向かっていく。

シュレックは他の人からは怖がられている怪物である。その外見とは裏腹に本質は心の優しい彼は、人里離れた沼地で一人気楽に暮らしていた。ある日、シュレックは森の中でお調子者でおしゃべりなロバのドンキーと出会う。シュレックに怯えて逃げた兵達を見てシュレックが自分を救ってくれたと思い込み嫌がるシュレックについて行く。ドンキーのおしゃべりにうんざりしたシュレックが戻ってみると、彼の沼地には妖精やおとぎ話の主人公達が押し寄せてきていた。

旅の末、フィオナの呪いを解き、無事に結婚したシュレックとフィオナ。幸せな日々を送っていたが、ある日フィオナの両親から、結婚の祝いを行うので来る様にとの手紙が届く。嫌われるに決まっていると最初は渋っていたシュレックだが、同じく結婚したドラゴンと近頃気まずいというドンキーと共に仕方なくフィオナの故郷「遙か彼方の王国」に旅立ち、到着するもシュレックの予想通り、シュレックや怪物姿のフィオナを見た両親はびっくりし、怪物という偏見と考えが合わないことでシュレックと国王は喧嘩をしてしまう。

美しく心優しい白雪姫。その美しさを妬む継母の女王から命を脅かされ、森の奥深くに逃れた白雪姫は、7人のこびとたち―おとぼけ、ねぼすけ、くしゃみ、てれすけ、ごきげん、先生、おこりんぼ―と出会い、一緒に暮らし始める。 ある日、老婆に姿を変えた女王が訪ねて来て、毒リンゴを口にしてしまった白雪姫。横たわる白雪姫の傍らで悲しむこびとたちの元に王子様が現れて…。

本編はお城に嫁いだシンデレラのその後が舞台となっており、シンデレラに魔法をかけた妖精のおばあさんがシンデレラの物語を聞かせていく。お城に嫁いだシンデレラが初めて取り仕切ることになった晩餐会の話、ねずみのジャックが人間に変身してさまざまな人間たちとの交流を描いた話、シンデレラのお姉さん・意地悪なアナスタシアが町のパン屋の主人に恋をしてしまう話の3本立てで展開される。そして話を聞かされたジャックやガスは、それらの話を本にしてシンデレラにプレゼントすることを思いつくのだった。

The second full-length film of director Dusan Rapos. It was based on Eleonora Gasparova's novel of the same title. The director tells a story about the life and troubles of young people living in the city. The teenagers have to face real life, make their first major decisions, and learn that romance sometimes brings disappointment. The original Slovak music composed for the film by Vaso Patejdl contributed greatly to the film's atmosphere. It helped to make The Fountain for Suzanne a legendary picture of Slovak cinematography at the time.
