After a doctor kills his mistress and himself while researching the mysterious previous owner of his Boston home, his colleague, Dr. Norman Boyle, takes over his research and moves his family from New York City to the Boston mansion. Soon after, Boyle's young son Bob becomes plagued by visions of a young girl, who warns him of the danger within the house.

過去に度々事業に失敗、計画性も仕事もないが楽天的な父キム・ギテク。そんな甲斐性なしの夫に強くあたる母チュンスク。大学受験に落ち続け、若さも能力も持て余している息子ギウ。美大を目指すが上手くいかず、予備校に通うお金もない娘ギジョンは、“ 半地下住宅”で 暮らす貧しい4人家族だ。“半地下”の家は、暮らしにくい。窓を開ければ、路上で散布される消毒剤が入ってくる。電波が悪い。Wi-Fiも弱い。水圧が低いからトイレが家の一番高い位置に鎮座している。家族全員、ただただ“普通の暮らし”がしたい。受験経験は豊富だが学歴のないギウは、ある時、エリート大学生の友人から留学中の代打を頼まれる。ギウが向かった先は、IT企業の社長パク・ドンイク一家が暮らす高台の大豪邸だった。

第2次世界大戦中、才能にあふれた物理学者のロバート・オッペンハイマーは、核開発を急ぐ米政府のマンハッタン計画において、原爆開発プロジェクトの委員長に任命される。しかし、実験で原爆の威力を目の当たりにし、さらにはそれが実戦で投下され、恐るべき大量破壊兵器を生み出したことに衝撃を受けたオッペンハイマーは、戦後、さらなる威力をもった水素爆弾の開発に反対するようになるが……。

1981年、犯罪が多発する大都会ゴッサムシティ。ピエロの仕事をしているアーサーは貧しく、老いた母親ペニーと暮らす上、突然笑いだしてしまうという心の病に悩むが、TV界の人気司会者フランクリンを憧れの対象にして日々耐え忍んでいた。ある日、失業したアーサーは地下鉄で、女性客に嫌がらせをしていた男性3人組を偶然持っていた拳銃で皆殺しにしてしまう。以後アーサーは、自身の心にあった怒りを解放させていく。

物語は三島由紀夫最後の一日となる朝から始まり、『金閣寺』『鏡子の家』『奔馬』を劇中劇として見せながら三島の生涯を描いていく。 どもりを持つ学生・溝口は金閣寺はその美しさに見苦しい自分の姿を責め悩み、放火をしてしまう『金閣寺』。容姿端麗で華奢な美青年・治が、最後はマゾヒスティックな狂愛に溺れていく『鏡子の家』。剣道に励む青年が同じ学生仲間とクーデターを決起する『奔馬』。そして、三島由紀夫の最期の瞬間に至る…。

近未来の地球では植物の枯死、異常気象により人類は滅亡の危機に立たされていた。元宇宙飛行士クーパーは、義父と15歳の息子トム、10歳の娘マーフとともにトウモロコシ農場を営んでいる。マーフは自分の部屋の本棚から本がひとりでに落ちる現象を幽霊のせいだと信じていたが、ある日クーパーはそれが何者かによるメッセージではないかと気が付く。クーパーとマーフはメッセージを解読し、それが指し示している秘密施設にたどり着くが、最高機密に触れたとして身柄を拘束される。
