舞台は再開発の波が押し寄せる1980年代のニューヨークの東8番街（現在の慣用的な邦訳では、東8丁目）。アパートの住人のフランクらは、立ち退き問題に疲れ果てていた。その夜、空から、命を持ったUFOのような生命体が現れ、アパートの住人を守ろうとする。

ハワイ・カウアイ島。両親を亡くした少女リロは、姉のナニと暮らすが、福祉局から養育環境を問題視され、施設へ送られようとしていた。そんなリロは奇妙な子犬をペットとして引き取り、スティッチと名づける。実はスティッチは宇宙人ジャンバ博士がひそかに作り上げたモンスターで、脱走して地球に逃げ込んで来たのだ。スティッチの捕獲のため、逮捕されたジャンバ博士とお目付け役の諜報員プリークリーが地球へと派遣されてくる。

1982年の南極。ノルウェー隊のヘリが、1匹の犬を追ってアメリカ南極観測隊第4基地へ現れた。銃や手榴弾を使い執拗に犬を狙うが失敗し、手違いからヘリは爆発。一人生き残ったノルウェー隊員は基地内へ逃げた犬を追って銃撃を続け、基地の隊員を負傷させるが基地の隊長により射殺される。ノルウェー基地へ向かったヘリ操縦士のマクレディらが見つけたものは、自殺し凍りついた隊員の死体、何かを取り出したと思しき氷塊、そして異様に変形し固まったおぞましい焼死体だった。一行は調査のため、記録フィルムと焼死体を持ち帰る。

音を立てたら即死という世界を描いたサバイバル・ホラー『クワイエット・プレイス』の続編。前作で生き延びたものの夫と家を失ったエヴリンが、2人の子供と出産したばかりの赤ん坊を抱えて外の世界へ向かう。
