ダンサーになる夢を追う女性の姿を描いた青春映画。昼は製鉄所、夜はナイトクラブのフロアダンサーとして働くアレックスは、日々プロのダンサーになることを夢みて暮らしていた。そして恋人との確執、友人の死などを経て、いよいよオーディションの日が迫ってきた……。
ライオンのアレックス、シマウマのマーティ、カバのグロリア、キリンのメルマンの４頭とその仲間たちがマダガスカル島に漂着してから数年後。ようやく飛行機でニューヨークへ帰る手筈が整うが、離陸して間もなく燃料切れで不時着してしまう。そこは、彼らの生まれ故郷、アフリカ大陸だった。様々な動物と交流を育むアレックスたち。だがそんな中、水が枯渇する事態に見舞われる。アレックスたちはその原因究明に奔走する。
舞台は、15世紀のパリ。そこにあるノートルダム大聖堂の鐘楼にひっそりと暮らす鐘衝き男・カジモドは、容姿こそ醜いが、優しく純粋な心を持った青年。彼は、育ての親・フロローの言いつけで外に出る事を許されず、友人は3人組の石像だけだった。 そんなある日、町の祭で楽しく盛り上がる人々を見て、我慢出来なくなったカジモドは遂に大聖堂を飛び出した。
