福島県の昭和村にある廃校となった旧喰丸小学校に元校長が住んでいる。学校は村の音楽仲間の練習場であり、教育委員会が発掘した遺跡物の保管場所にもなっているが老朽化により取り壊しが決定し、校長は立退きを要求されている。県の博物館からこの小学校の卒業生、野田が遺跡物調査のため派遣される。野田の恩師の綾子先生の娘リツコが営む飲み屋で、野田は綾子が現在高齢者施設にいることを知らされる。野田は学校の閉校式の日、タイムカプセルを埋めた記憶があるが、どこに埋めたかを覚えていなかった。その閉校式の日にみんなと見ていたはずの人形一座による劇の結末も覚えていなかった。校長も野田たちがタイムカプセルを埋めたことは覚えていたが、埋めた場所は綾子しかわからないという。

結婚して3年が経つ、テディベア作家の瑠璃子とIT会社勤務の聡。 傍から見ると幸せそうな2人だが、心はすれ違う日々だった。「この家には恋が足りない」と孤独を感じていた瑠璃子はある日、テディベアの個展で自分のベアを欲しがる青年、春夫に出会い、お互いに惹かれ合っていく。同じころ、夫の聡も大学時代の同窓会で後輩のしほに再会し、次第に好意を抱き始める。心の距離が開いた夫婦2人、それぞれの秘密の恋。 2人一緒に過ごす日々の中で、小さな優しい嘘が積み重ねられていく。

大学八年生の竹村文哉（オダギリジョー）は、いつの間にか84万円の借金をこしらえていた。返済期限の前日、文哉は借金取りの福原（三浦友和）から、一つの提案を受ける。吉祥寺から霞ヶ関まで歩く福原の東京散歩に付き合えば、借金をチャラにするばかりか、100万円の報酬もくれるというのだ。選択の余地のない文哉はそれを引き受け、井の頭公園の橋の上から、二人の散歩は始まる。初日の調布飛行場で、福原は妻（宮田早苗）を殺してしまい、桜田門の警視庁に自首しに行くための散歩であることを文哉に告げる。一方、福原の妻が勤めていたスーパーでは、彼女の無断欠勤を部長の国松（岩松了）や事務員の仙台（ふせえり）、友部（松重豊）が心配していた。その頃も福原と文哉の散歩は淡々と続いていた。阿佐ヶ谷、新宿などを経て、やがて散歩も四日目を迎えた頃、二人は福原の知り合いである麻紀子（小泉今日子）の家を訪れる。そこに娘役のふふみ（吉高由里子）も加え、擬似家族のような数日を過ごす四人。家族に縁がなく育った文哉の心に、今まで味わったことのない感情がざわついた。まもなく、福原が最後の晩餐に食べたいと言っていたカレーライスが食卓に上がる。その翌日、福原と文哉は霞ヶ関へと足を進め、福原はふっと警察へと入って消える。取り残された文哉は、秋の東京に一人立ちすくむのだった。

This time around the theme is "24 hours," where filming for each work must have been completed in 24 hours in order to appear in this film.

Based on the actual amateur theater company "Theatrical Company Hono" in Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, where the presiding officers and performers are composed of elderly women. Based on a 1956 television feature on Japan’s national network, NHK, this is one of Uchida’s rarest films. A socially conscious drama with a contemporary backdrop, Dotanba focuses on the attempts to rescue a group of trapped miners. The title is a figure of speech — (essentially “last minute” or “eleventh hour”) — that refers to a situation of peril. The film boasts a script co-written by Uchida and Akira Kurosawa’s frequent screenwriter, Shinobu Hashimoto, and stars Kurosawa’s frequent star Takashi Shimura.

Revenge breeds revenge. Ikuta Denpachiro, the martial arts instructor of the Honda family in Koriyama, lost a fight to the young samurai Enjo Sozaemon in a martial arts tournament and as a result lost his position and was expelled from home. Wanting to avenge the mockery of himself, he treacherously kills Sozaemon and goes on the run. After long wanderings, Denpachiro, it would seem, finds a peaceful life and love in the face of a devoted and courageous Okatsu, but the brothers of the murdered man are already on his trail, wanting to avenge the death of Sozaemon. The film is based on a story by Itaro Yamagami.
