This is the story of a dysfunctional family in which each member engages in an illicit activity, but they don't know this about each other. One day, the Contreras family witnesses a police operation outside the building in which they live and, believing that they are coming for them, each member decides to hide incriminating objects in their room.

A former convict, named Raul Vela, and a cabaret singer, called Clara, are a couple who tries to lead a normal life. He has found an employment and she wants to leave the cabaret. One day an old chief, who wants to disappear, proposes him to justify his supposed death in a supposed accident. In exchange, Raúl will receive one hundred thousand pesetas as gratification. Raul refuses to engage in the deception. Shortly after, he reads in a newspaper about the death of Cervera, which makes the police relate him to the case.

After committing a robbery, Rafael joins Silvestre and they begin a long run to escape the Police that takes them to Puigcerdà, near the French border they want to cross. Silvestre is tougher and they have some quarrels.

During World War II, French Commandos join forces with a German officer in order to survive the African desert.

Nico falls in love with Kitty, but, unlike the other men who court her, treats her with indifference. The girl, wounded in his pride, it is interested to Nico. Just before the wedding, Don Candido leaves claimed by its industrial businesses, and instructs his friend to take care of his bride. Nico and Kitty end up falling in love. Don Candido back the same day fixed for the wedding.

Based on a play

An animals' collectionist is despised by his wife so that he decide to comeet suicide, but the notice about the death of his brother, a pianist who lives abroad makes him change his mind. He makes his family think that he has commited suicide and some days after announce the arrival of his brother and he impersonate him. His wife recibes him with an affection that he was unaware to.
