トップハム・ハット卿が休暇で暫くの間ソドー島を離れる事になり、『シャイニング・タイム駅』の駅員『ミスター・コンダクター』が、局長代理として島へ来ることになった。トーマスたち機関車は彼を歓迎するものの、極悪非道なディーゼル機関車、ディーゼル10も謎の機関車『レディー』を捕まえるべくソドー島に帰って来ていた。そのレディーは、マッフル・マウンテンに住むバーネット・ストーンが洞窟に隠していた。彼は以前、この機関車を守るようコンダクター家に頼まれていたが、数年前、レディーを酷い目に合わせてしまい、それ以来山に閉じ籠ってしまう。ソドー島では、誰もがディーゼルに脅える中、やっとミスターコンダクターがソドー島に到着する。しかし、ソドー島とシャイニング・タイムを行き来するのに必要な『魔法の粉』が底を尽きてしまい、ピンチを迎えてしまう。

As soon as Harvey S. Potter descends upon a drought-stricken farmland, he begins to grow a mysterious but beautiful crop of balloons.
