「半落ち」「陽はまた昇る」など数々の作品を手がけ、2020年3月に急逝した佐々部清監督の遺作。鹿児島で400年以上の伝統を誇る川内大綱引を軸に、主人公の恋愛と彼の家族の姿が描かれる。35歳独身で奥手の有馬武志は、鳶の親方で大綱引の師匠でもある父の寛志から、早く嫁をもらって、しっかりとした跡継ぎになれとうるさく言われていた。ある日、ふとした事件から韓国人研修医ジヒョンと出会った武志は、ジヒョンと次第に心を通わせるようになる。その頃有馬家では、母の文子が定年退職を宣言し、家事を放棄したため、家族たちが頭を悩ませていた。年に一度の一大行事である大綱引が迫る中、武志はジヒョンから2週間後に帰国すると告げられる。主人公の武志を三浦貴大、韓国人研修医のジヒョンを知英がそれぞれ演じ、比嘉愛未、石野真子、松本若菜、中村優一、西田聖志郎、朝加真由美、升毅らが顔をそろえる。

天才的な頭脳で、数々の難事件を解決に導いてきた脳科学者・御手洗潔。ある日、御手洗は半年の間に6体もの死体が海岸で発見されたという“死体島”の存在を知る。事件の現場である瀬戸内海の興居島に着いた御手洗は、死体が海流によってある場所からこの島に流れてきたと推理。その場所を広島県福山市だと突き止め、福山へ移動した御手洗たちだったが、外国人女性の変死体が発見されるなど奇妙な事件に遭遇する。

恋人を殺害した犯人へのリベンジを誓った鈴木は、教職を辞め裏社会の組織に潜入しその機会をうかがっていた。絶好の機会が訪れた矢先、押し屋と呼ばれる殺し屋の仕業で犯人が目前であっけなく死んでしまう。正体を探るため鈴木が押し屋の後を追う一方、特殊な力で標的を自殺に追い込む殺し屋・鯨は、ある任務を終えたとき、殺人現場を目撃する。
