A Palestinian comedy about women crammed in a tiny beauty parlor on the Gaza Strip

Hasan Hourani, a Palestinian poet and illustrator, died aged 29 in Jaffa while trying to rescue his nephew from the sea. Shortly after, the filmmaker Mais Darwazah discovers his drawings and poems and feels drawn to Hourani's world— a universe outside space and time; a place of wonder, discovery, and freedom. Motivated by this kinship, Darwazah embarks on a journey to her homeland, Palestine: a place she has never known.

人類を乗せた初となる火星へのミッションの最終日、タンタロス基地のクルー隊員の一人は驚くべき発見をしたことを確信していた。彼はバクテリア生命が存在していた証拠となる化石を見つけたのだ。救助隊員にこの栄光を奪い取られるのを避けようと、彼は荷造りをする命令に逆らい、更なるサンプルを採集するために無許可の探索に出かける。しかし、いつも通りに進むはずだった発掘の最中に透過性の地面が崩れ、深い割れ目に落ち死と直面した彼は大惨事に見舞われてしまう。心配した同僚たちは彼の遺体を探し出そうと試みる。しかし、もう一人の隊員が失踪した時、彼らは発見された生命体が実はまだ死んでいなかったのではないかと疑い始める。グループがばらばらになっていく中、着陸を間近にする救助船オーロラが彼らにとっての最後の望みとなるのであった。

ある日、カナダで暮らす双子の姉弟ジャンヌ（メリッサ・デゾルモー＝プーラン）とシモン（マキシム・ゴーデット）の母親ナワル（ルブナ・アザバル）が永眠する。後日、長年彼女を秘書として雇っていた公証人（レミー・ジラール）により、母の遺言が読み上げられる。その内容は、所在がわからない自分たちの父と兄に手紙を渡してほしいというもので……。 『渦』のドゥニ・ヴィルヌーヴが監督と脚本を務め、レバノン出身の劇作家ワジ・ムアワッドの原作を映画化した珠玉の人間ドラマ。中東からカナダに移り住んだある女性の壮絶な人生を、過去と現代を行きつ戻りつしながら映し出す。『パラダイス・ナウ』のルブナ・アザバルが陰のある母親を演じ、その娘を、カナダのテレビで活躍するメリッサ・デゾルモー＝プーランが演じている。過酷な生涯を生きた女性の胸に秘められた思いに涙する。
