Hasan Hourani, a Palestinian poet and illustrator, died aged 29 in Jaffa while trying to rescue his nephew from the sea. Shortly after, the filmmaker Mais Darwazah discovers his drawings and poems and feels drawn to Hourani's world— a universe outside space and time; a place of wonder, discovery, and freedom. Motivated by this kinship, Darwazah embarks on a journey to her homeland, Palestine: a place she has never known.

화성에서의 탐사를 마치고 대원들은 지구로 귀환 직전 미지의 우주 생명체 박테리아를 발견하게 된다. 이를 처음으로 발견한 대원은 비밀리에 세포를 직접 확인하러 갔다가 사고로 실족사한다. 모든 팀원들은 아무 소득 없이 지구로 돌아갈 줄 알았던 마지막 날 인류 최초로 화성에서 생명체를 발견했다는 업적 달성에 기뻐하면서도 뜻밖에 일어난 동료의 실족사로 기지 내에는 알 수 없는 긴장감이 감돈다. 대원들이 시신을 거두러 그 장소에 도착하였을 때, 이를 살펴보러 갔던 팀원과 시신이 함께 사라진 것을 알게 된다. 그 때, 기지 밖 공간에서 누군가의 움직임이 발견 되는데...

쌍둥이 남매인 잔느와 시몽은 어느 날 갑자기 의식을 잃은 어머니 나왈의 유언을 전해 듣고 혼란에 빠진다. 유언의 내용은 죽은 줄로만 알았던 생부와 존재조차 몰랐던 형제를 찾아 자신이 남긴 편지를 전해달라는 것. 또한 편지를 전하기 전까지는 절대 장례를 치르지 말라는 당부도 함께 담겨있다. 시몬은 유언을 따르길 거부하지만 진실이 궁금한 잔느는 지도교수의 도움을 얻어 중동에 있는 어머니의 고향으로 떠난다. 베일에 싸여 있던 그녀의 과거와 마주한 잔느. 어둠 속에 묻혀 있던 어머니의 과거의 끝에는 충격적인 진실이 기다리고 있는데...
