Little Towa lives with his parents Satsuki and Yuichi in a coastal town on Nagashima. Yuichi is a fisherman, Satsuki runs a restaurant. What Towa doesn’t know is that he is adopted. Set in Nagano Prefecture, the movie stars Shingo Mizusawa (8000 Miles) as an awkward 28-year-old temporary factory worker named Kaji; a character partially modeled after the perpetrator of the 2008 Akihabara massacre. His social interactions are limited to his postings on internet message boards until he starts hanging out with a co-worker named Tanaka (Shohei Uno) who suffers from the debilitating sleep disorder narcolepsy. The pair become involved in a predicament when they attempt to protect a girl named named Yuri (Ai Tamura) from their other co-worker Okada (Yasushi Fuchikami).

時代は昭和後期（主人公の生年からの計算や劇中のカレンダーから1986年と思われる）。19歳の北町貫多は、日雇い労働で生計を立てている。貫多が幼少の折、彼の父親が性犯罪を犯したことで家庭は崩壊した。両親の離婚、数度の転校を繰り返すなかで鬱々とした青春時代を過ごす彼は将来への希望を失った。やがて中学校を卒業した彼は、母親からむしり取った金を手に家を飛び出し、港湾での荷役労働に従事することで一人暮らしを始める。日当の5500円は即座に酒代とソープランド代に消えていく。将来のために貯金するでもなく、月の家賃のため金を取り置くわけでもなく、部屋の追い立てを食らうことも一度や二度ではない。こうして貫多は、義務教育後の4年間を無為に過ごしていたのだった。

Taxi driver in Japan
Ryo (Yamada Masasi), the lead singer of an amateur rock band at night, owns a Ramen noodle shop. He cannot fly on airplanes because he has a fear of them. Ironically, he finds himself attracted to a stewardess who comes to eat very often at his shop. One day, an opportunity comes knocking on their doors - they are to perform in Seoul. The performance day approaches, but their dream of performing in Seoul is about to be shattered because of Ryo, who cannot fly on an airplane. As a last resort, Ryo decides to take a taxi in Tokyo and fly to Seoul, leaving behind the charming stewardess who makes his heart flutter.
