Puck has been invited by her tutor at the university to celebrate midsummer at his secluded cottage on an island together with a group of friends, among them Einar Bure. Puck and Einar are having a secret relationship, and he is the reason she says yes to the invitation. Having been out on a romantic spree with Einar, Puck finds one of the female guests murdered. Einar contacts his friend Christer Wijk, but upon Christer's arrival, the dead body has disappeared. The contact with the outside world is broken when the island's only boat goes missing. When he by chance ends up in the Wild Woods his world is changed dramatically. He meets the wild rabbit Wilda that does not care about ‘mine’ and ‘yours’. What sort of rabbit is she really? Why is she always helping all the animals of the woods? After a dramatic encounter with an eagle Wilda needs to rest, and Willy has to help Wilda and all the other animals that come to Wildas burrow for help. It is hard work!

運河の工事中、水門の底から若く美しい女性の全裸死体が発見された。捜査にあたったベックたちは、その女性がロゼアンナというアメリカ人観光客であるという事、エンジンの故障で運河に停泊中だった観光船に彼女が乗っていた事を突き止める。おそらく船上で殺され水門に投げ込まれたのだろう。そして容疑者は、船客の撮影した８ミリに写っていたひとりの男に絞られた。男の化けの皮を剥ぐためにベックは婦人警官を使った囮捜査を準備する。だがそれは、普段は几帳面で温厚な男の本性を暴くためというには、あまりにも危険な手段であった……。

Stockholm policeman Martin Beck is called in to investigate the murder of a fellow officer. Beck and his partner, Einar Ronn, soon discover that the murdered policeman was well known to his colleagues for his excessive brutality, though his misdeeds were never reported to higher authorities. As they pursue their investigation, a sniper climbs to a roof in downtown Stockholm and starts firing at every uniformed officer he sees.
