粟津環は堂本組若頭補佐で粟津組組長の妻である。気丈な彼女は、服役中の夫・等に変わり組を守っていたが、堂本組総長が急死した。関西を拠点に全国的に勢力を持つ堂本組は、傘下組員二万人の暴力団で、粟津組はその直系である。堂本組の跡目相続人は、故人の遺言によって若頭の柿沼に決定した。これを不満とする舎弟頭の蔵川は、同補佐の小磯らを引き連れて朋竜会を結成したが環はあくまで堂本に忠誠を尽し、小磯の誘いを拒否する。
