Romane and Clemence are between 25 and 30 years old, they are sister and they live together in a big house. They lost her mother in a car crash that caused a disability in Clemence: she cannot walk properly or talk and Romane take care of her daily. Indochina, 1945. While the French are harassed by both the Japanese army and the Vietnamese rebels, private Robert Tassen, driven by the memory of a tragedy of which he is the only survivor, embarks on the search for the mysterious and cruel Võ Bình Yên, one of the leaders of the insurrection.

The story revolves around 22-year-old Laure, who is trying to find her feet. After performing brilliantly in her literature studies, she enrols as a communications officer in the Naval Fusiliers.
