地質学者のクリスチャン(クリストッフェル・ヨーネル)は、ノルウェーのガイランゲルを襲った巨大津波を予測し、人々の救出に奔走した。3年後、首都オスロに移り住んだ彼は、もっと救えたはずだと自分を責めた揚げ句、家族と離れてガイランゲルに戻る。ある日、トンネルの崩落事故で知人の研究者が命を落とす。彼の家を弔問したクリスチャンは、そこで得たデータから地殻変動の予兆を感じ取る。
