Shibuya Haruko is a high school student living in Tokyo. One night, she is instantly smitten by Kanagawa Kenichi, who is lying prone on a bridge. But Kenichi becomes far more interested in a girl he impulsively hits on, Mayumi, over the high-spirited Haruko.

定年までの38年間を無遅刻無欠勤で勤め上げた真面目一徹の道太郎。18年前に妻と死別し、身の回りのことはひとり娘の弓子に任せっきりだった彼だが、弓子から今後自分のことは自分でやるように、と親離れを宣言されてしまう。慣れない主夫業と第二の人生に戸惑う道太郎は、ある朝、成り行きから地域のラジオ体操会に参加することに。会のマドンナ的存在であるのぞみに胸ときめかせながら、体操にいそしむ道太郎だった。

麦(東出昌大)と朝子(唐田えりか)は恋に落ちるが、麦は彼女の前から突然居なくなってしまう。それから2年がたち、彼女は麦との思い出が残る大阪を離れて東京で暮らし始める。ある日、麦と外見はそっくりだが性格の違う亮平(東出昌大)と出会う。麦のことを忘れられないがゆえに彼を避けていたが、一方の亮平はそんな彼女に強く惹かれる。亮平と接するうちに彼に惹(ひ)かれていく朝子だったが......。

何事にも無関心な夫・健太との心のすれ違いに悩む30代の平凡な主婦・美穂。そりが合わない家族から逃げるようにして上京し、今では家族に内緒でAV女優として多忙な日々を送る25歳の専門学校生・彩乃。母親が元AV女優なのではと周囲から噂され、自分の住む町にも学校にも一向になじめない17歳の女子高生・あやこ。各自、年齢や性格、境遇も異なる3人の女性たちの運命は、ある出来事をきっかけに次第に大きく動き始める。

Mutsuko has been living on an island to which her grandmother and mother have restricted her from leaving. To Mutsuko, the symbol of her freedom was Dreamland, an amusement park on the mainland, but she learns it will be closing permanently this year. Meanwhile, Wataru returns to the island after nine years due to a job transfer. A pupil of his deceased father pays him a visit and tells him about a side of his father he did not know about.

Hazuki and Aoi are classmates but their relationship outside class is fraught, and outside school non-existent. But when both girls are drawn to helping an elderly woman, they're forced to interact, confronting their differences and similarities as well as their deepest secrets.

Haruo, a director, auditions for a film already partially shot in Taiwan. Thus he meets Ma, a young Taiwanese skater just as disoriented as he is.

Midori Mantani and Masao Minamisawa are both 28-years-old. They have dated for 4 years, but their relationship seems to be just going through the motions. They think about breaking up. At that time, Midori becomes pregnant. Midori and Masao decide to marry. While preparing for their wedding, they become more familiar with each other's background. Midori Mantani grew up with parents who ran an iron factory in a provincial city that didn't offer much in terms of culture. Unlike Midori, Masao Minamisawa grew up in Tokyo and his family was wealthy. His father worked as a photographer and his mother was a doctor. He now works as a web designer. The couple begin to have a better understanding of each other.

After the death of his father, Chihiro goes to live with his older half-brother Togo and his girlfriend Satomi. Togo and Satomi greet him with open arms, but Chihiro feels loneliness. He attends his friend Naoya's interpretive dance practice-- and becomes more and more interested in Naoya's personal matters.

The third part of a trilogy focusing on the Tohoku region that is comprised of dialogues with victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Ideas on how to share experiences of the disaster with future generations, a challenge touched upon in the previous films The Sound of Waves and Voices from the Waves, is found in folk tales from the region. Based on four early novellas by Noble Prize winner Yasunari Kawabata, this omnibus of four short films are by emerging directors from the second graduating class of the new Graduate School of Film and New Media at Japan’s top art school, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (Tokyo Geidai), where famed directors Takeshi Kitano and Kiyoshi Kurosawa teach.
