Sergeant 'Sol' Campbell
2006年のアフガニスタン。へルマンド州に派遣されたイギリス陸軍のパトロール小隊は、リチャードソン隊長の指揮の下、７名もの兵士が掃討作戦に従事していた。しかし荒涼で変化に乏しい不毛な大地で作戦行動を続けて行く中、ウェールズ出身のタフが何者かによって撃たれ、戦友であるスマッジは激昂し、彼は作戦以外にもこの状況の全てに不満を漏らす。また当初、作戦計画が10日間で終わる筈だったにも関わらず、司令部からはアメリカ軍撤退支援の為に任務日程を更に伸ばされ、然も補給や支援すらもままならず、隊員達の士気は益々低下して行く。
