日本・トルコ合作映画。壮大なスケールで贈る真実の物語。二つのエピソードで構成。１８９０年、和歌山県串本町沖、トルコの親善使節団を乗せた軍艦エルトゥールル号が座礁して大破、海に投げ出された乗組員５００名以上が暴風雨で命を落とす。そうした過酷な状況下で、地元住民が懸命の救援活動に乗り出す。それから時を経たイラン・イラク戦争中の１９８５年、日本政府は危機的状況を理由にイラン在留邦人の救出を断念。テヘランに残された邦人は300名以上。そんな中、トルコ政府は彼らのためにある行動を取る。国境を越えた真の友情を描く感動作。第３９回日本アカデミー賞において、優秀作品賞と優秀監督賞をはじめとする１０部門で優秀賞を受賞。美術と録音部門は最優秀賞を獲得。

Veteran director Nakajima Sadao examines the appeal, background, context and transition of chambara, or period sword-fighting and samurai films, in Kyoto. Not only interviews with actors, choreographers and critiques are included, but the director orchestrates an original chambara scene for the documentary.

時は加賀騒動の前後。加賀藩6代藩主・前田吉徳の側室・お貞の方に仕える女中の春は、江戸屋敷で出会った加賀藩台所方・舟木伝内から、彼の息子・安信の嫁にと望まれる。春は一度は断ったが、伝内の熱意に心を打たれ、お貞の方からの助言もあり舟木家への嫁入りを決意する。兄の急死で跡取りとなった安信は、料理の腕はからっきし駄目であり、御料理人の務めにも身が入らなかった。親戚を招いての試食会で出した料理を身内からも批判される姿を目の当たりにした春は、汁物の味付けをこっそり替えて出す。その行為に立腹した安信であったが、「包丁侍なぞつまらぬ」との暴言に怒った春から「離婚か料理指導か」を賭けた料理勝負を挑まれ敗北、改めて彼女の実力を知る。春のスパルタ料理指導の甲斐あって、安信は徐々に腕も上達し出世していく。安信の昇進を家族はもちろん、親友の今井定之進・佐代夫妻も喜ぶが、春は姑・満との会話から、かつて安信と佐代が恋仲だったことを知ってしまう。

When a gal named Kasumi decides to become a traditional Japanese 'Rakugo' storyteller due to her uncle's invalidity, she is soon on her way to a career with college-level and amateur success. She becomes a student to one of the master's of the genre and is even asked to perform by a TV producer. The only snag is, the particular story has a curse dripping from its words.
