張り込み明けの刑事ジャック（ブルース・ウィリス）は、仮釈放中に悪事を犯した囚人エディ（モス・デフ）をNY市警本部のあるパーク・ロウから16ブロック（約1.6km）離れたセンター・ストリートの裁判所まで護送し、証言させることに。しかし、その途中、何者かに襲撃された2人は近くのバーに身を潜め、応援を待つことになる。やがて、ジャックの元相棒フランク（デヴィッド・モース）が現れるが……。

Major Benson Winifred Payne is being discharged from the Marines. Payne is a killin' machine, but the wars of the world are no longer fought on the battlefield. ミック・ダンディーはオーストラリアからニューヨークに来てスーと同棲生活を始めたものの失業してしまい、悶々とした日々を過ごしていた。その頃、南米コロンビアでは、スーの前夫のカメラマン・ボブがルイス・リコの麻薬組織を追っていたが、彼等の殺人の現場を撮影した所を見つかって殺害されてしまう。しかし、そのフィルムは一足早くスーのもとに郵送されていたため、スーとダンディーは組織から狙われる事になるが、ダンディーは仲間たちと共に組織に立ち向かう。

A film adaptation of a book written in 1963. It tells the true story of Wilkerson's first five years in New York City, where he ministered to disillusioned youth, encouraging them to turn away from the drugs and gang violence they were involved with.
