ネヴィル・シュートの終末SFの古典『渚にて』は59年にグレゴリー・ペック主演で映画化されたが、今回は舞台となるオーストラリアの製作で長編TVムービーとしてリメイクされた。21世紀初頭、アメリカと中国の間で起きた核戦争は北半球を壊滅しただけでなく、残る南半球にも放射能の脅威を残した。唯一生き延びた米原潜の一行は最後の楽園となったオーストラリアに上陸するが、再び出航の命令が下る。北半球のどこかから正体不明のメールが送られてきたのだ。だが、万に一つの可能性を求めて北上する彼らの前には、忌むべき核の戦禍が広がっていた……。
