最強の名をほしいままにしていた忍者・虎影。6年前、彼は忍びの世界を抜け、元くノ一の妻・月影とひとり息子の孤月とともに平穏な日々を過ごしていた。一方、忍者集団“焔衆”の女頭領・幻斎は、2つそろえば隠し財宝のありかが示されるという金銀の巻物のうち、金の巻物を入手していた。次に耶厳藩藩主リクリの持つ銀の巻物を狙う幻斎は、孤月を人質に取り、虎影に巻物を盗み出すよう命じる。

元刑事の藤島昭和（役所広司）のもとに、ある日別れた妻から、娘の加奈子（小松菜奈）の行方がわからなくなったと連絡が入る。家族を失った原因について顧みずに、理想の家族像を手に入れようと思い描き、なりふり構わず娘の行方を追う藤島。娘の交友関係を洗ううちに、成績優秀で学校の人気者だったはずの加奈子のとんでもない側面が露わになっていく……。
