Five hundred miles north of Vancouver is Kitamaat, an Indian reservation in the homeland of the Haisla people. Visited by ghosts and shapeshifters, tormented by premonitions, she can't escape the sense that something terrible is waiting for her. She recounts her enchanted yet scarred life as she journeys in her speedboat up the frigid waters of the Douglas Channel. She is searching for her brother, dead by drowning, and in her own way running as fast as she can toward danger. Circling her brother's tragic death are the remarkable characters that make up her family: Lisamarie's parents, struggling to join their Haisla heritage with Western ways; Uncle Mick, a Native rights activist and devoted Elvis fan; and the headstrong Ma-ma-oo (Haisla for "grandmother"), a guardian of tradition.

製作費6万ドルという低予算作品ながら、世界中で記録的な大ヒットとなったホラー映画「ブレア・ウィッチ・プロジェクト」の17年ぶりとなる続編。大学生のヘザー、ジョシュ、マイクが、森に生息するという伝説の魔女「ブレア・ウィッチ」をテーマにしたドキュメンタリー映画製作のため、ブラック・ヒルズの森に分け入った。しかし3人はそのまま消息を絶ち、森に消えた。あの事件から20年後、ヘザーの弟ジェームズが姉らしき人物の映った映像をYouTube見つける。そして、ジェームズは仲間とともに、森の中へ足を踏み入れる。監督は「サプライズ」「ザ・ゲスト」などのホラー作品を手がけ、ハリウッド版「デスノート」の監督も務めるアダム・ウィンガード。
