Seiji Ayabe
戦乱の世を生き抜いた武将・一文字秀虎も70歳を迎え、家督を息子3人に譲ることを決意。長男の太郎には一の城、次男の次郎には二の城、三男・三郎には三の城をそれぞれ与えた上、3人兄弟、仲良く相和して暮らすように説く。だが、三郎は、父の今後の身を案じたのがかえって秀虎の不興を買い、地方へ追放されてしまう。さらに3人兄弟の城を泊まり歩いて余生を暮らすつもりだった秀虎だが、太郎、次郎にそれぞれ疎んじられる。
ハワイに住む早坂恵美子（松田聖子）は、ホテルチェーンの社長の息子・国吉明（山下真司）と見合いをした。恵美子はまだ結婚を考えていなかったが、明と双方の両親はこの縁談に乗り気だった。夏休み、明に導かれ訪れた日本で、恵美子は一人の少年にナイフで斬りかかられるが、偶然通りかかった青年・寺尾慎治（中井貴一）に助けられる。慎治は、ウインドサーフィンに情熱を傾け、世界大会に向け日々練習に励んでいた。恵美子は、無愛想だが誠実な彼に惹かれていく。ハワイに帰国し、両親の反対を押し切って明の話を破談にしてもらった。そんな中、世界大会が近付き、慎治が日本からハワイにやってくる。
昭和15年、船大工の小田切武市は、ひとり息子の正人が海軍兵学校に合格したと聞き、大喜び。一方、考古学者の本郷は、長男の英一が自分の反対を押し切って海軍少尉となったのに引きかえ、次男の真二が自分と同じ学問の道に進むと聞いて、ほっと胸をなでおろす。翌年、日本はハワイの真珠湾を攻撃して太平洋戦争が勃発。たえず死と隣り合わせにある英一は、恋人の陽子と結婚するが、彼女に指一本触れることなく戦場に舞い戻る。
戦後、東大法学部の学生が設立した金融会社“太陽クラブ”は急成長を遂げたが、メンバーの隅田がヤミ金融容疑で検挙され焼身自殺を図る。残された鶴岡は新たに六甲商事を設立し、企業から次々と金を騙し取った。東京地検の福永検事は鶴岡をマークするが、彼は証拠を残さずに犯罪を繰り返すのだった。

明治34年 ロシアとの戦争が差し迫っている中、ロシアの厳しい冬の気候での戦闘経験の乏しい日本軍は寒冷地での戦闘訓練の必要を痛切に感じていた。そこで極寒の気候である青森県八甲田山において雪中行軍演習を執り行うことを決定した。雪中行軍において既に実績を持つ青森歩兵第五連隊神田大尉および第三十一連隊徳島大尉に真冬での八甲田山行軍遂行命令が下る。事前の予備調査では少人数で天候にも恵まれていたため特に問題とはならなかったが、これが冬の八甲田山を軽視する方向に進んでいってしまう。八甲田行軍が始まると事前調査とは比べ物にならないほど天候が荒れ始め、気象記録から過去最大級の低気圧が接近しているため演習の中止を進言する神田大尉であったが、演習責任者である彼を差し置いて同行していた上官は演習中止を許さず冬山を軽視したまま極寒地獄の修羅場となる八甲田山へ死の行軍を続けてしまうのであった…

An adventurous and daring sailor sets sail to the castle of an ailing king to stop an evil premier, hungry for power and wealth, from succeeding the throne and marrying the king's beautiful daughter. Along the way, with the help of some courageous rebels and a lustful wizard, he must overcome the powers of a bewitching witch, a band of ruthless pirates, and the castle's Imperial guards. He must also free those kidnapped into slavery and restore the king's reputation.
This Japanese action-adventure is set in the 17th century when all forms of swordplay were banned. One fighter, an excellent swordsman believes the law is unfair. His brother keeps his opinions about the law to himself. The swordsman vents his frustration by cutting off the thumbs of an enemy. The fighter is then banished. To live, he becomes a thief. To restore the family's lost honor, the other brother is forced to challenge the fighter to a duel.
While on his journey through the countryside of Japan, Shingo encounters many people whose lives have been affected by his actions. Though the many duels he fought were intended to bring justice to those who sought to do evil, he is faced with the knowledge that his victories have also caused suffering amont the family members of his victims-leading him to question his life's philosophy.
This superb film is the final chapter in this part of Shingo's story. A fitting tribute to his quest to be the supreme swordsman.

The story tells of a group of samurai who were left leaderless (becoming ronin) after their daimyo (feudal lord) was forced to commit seppuku (ritual suicide) for assaulting a court official named Kira Yoshinaka, whose title was Kōzuke no suke. The ronin avenged their master's honor after patiently waiting and planning for over a year to kill Kira. In turn, the ronin were themselves forced to commit seppuku for committing the crime of murder.

A touching drama about a love triangle between a young architect, Koroku, and two women, Ranko and Teruko. Ranko comes from a wealthy family and is offering to repay Koroku’s family debts in exchange for marriage, but Koroku is in love with his landlord’s daughter, Teruko. Things are further complicated when the wicked Tsugawa takes interest in both women, for his own marriage.

Shigemune
Two young crooks who scam betters in the race track are employed by a yakuza gang called the Shigemori Syndicate to steal a shipment of handguns from a rival gang. Somewhere in the process they find themselves on the run from their own gang and one of them becomes himself romantically entangled with the boss's girlfriend. An ambitious underboss of the gang offers them a way out if they murder the previous boss but things don't turn out as planned (for everyone).
An early Okamoto yakuza film, though it's not in the Underworld series (along with The Last Gunfight and The Big Boss) despite being alternatively known as "Death of the Boss." While Okamoto did not write this film and took on the project because he was assigned and "just doing [his] job" according to an interview with Chris Desjardins in Outlaw Masters of Japanese Film, he did express a general excitement about working in action cinema (which shows through in this film's energy.)

Kikumori runs a cabaret on the docks, while his friend Kaji operates transport boats. Lt. Koji Kitami is a navigator-bombardier in Japan's Naval Air Force. He participates in the Japanese raid on the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in 1941 and is welcomed with pride in his hometown on his return. As Japan racks up victory after victory in the Pacific War, Kitami is caught up in the emotion of the time and fights courageously for the standard of Japanese honor. But his assuredness of his government's righteousness is shaken after the Japanese navy is defeated in the debacle of Midway.

Japanese police detective Saburo Fujioka is suspected of corruption, demoted, and sent to the city of Kojin. Kojin is the scene of fierce fighting between rival gangs. Fujioka is assigned to investigate the death of the wife of gangster Tetsuo Maruyama of the Kozuka gang, probably at the hands of one of the Oka gang. During a gang gunfight, Maruyama is rescued by Detective Fujioka and the two become friends. But Maruyama insists on avenging his wife's murder, even if it means conflict with his new friend.

This little seen early work by Ichikawa was produced during the director's Shintoho period (1947-51). Written by Kaneto Shindô and featuring Ryô Ikebe as a young policeman it is part crime drama, part social study. Definitely not an undiscovered masterpiece, but still a must for Ichikawa buffs.
