Akane is a very chaste, very conservative nun who is the caretaker of Sabu, an elderly gentleman who is basically comatose. Two seriously wounded samurai find refuge from a storm at an isolated temple, the home of a swordsman and a mysterious young woman. One samurai awakes to find that not only has his comrade died, but that his wounds have miraculously healed. He discovers that he has been given the power of immortality by the swordsman, a man once known as the legendary Miyamoto Musashi, who now lives an endless existence as Aragami, a "god of battle".

Three aspiring young Japanese models are on their very first fashion shoot at an abandoned school one hot summer day. 　ある日、介護ボランティアをする女子大生の仁科理佳は、寝たきりの老婆・徳永幸枝の様子を見るためその家を訪れた。理佳は何か不気味な雰囲気を感じつつも家の中へと入っていく。悪臭が漂い物が散乱する中を進み、一階の薄暗い部屋で幸枝を発見する理佳だったが…。数日前、幸枝の息子・勝也が帰宅すると妻が倒れていた。この家に引っ越して以来、一家は不吉なことに見舞われ続けていた。やがて勝也の妹・仁美が不審に思いこの家にやって来るが、どこか様子のおかしい勝也に門前払いされてしまう。これを機に、仁美にも不吉なことが憑きまとうようになり…。

1972年2月19日、警察に追われた連合赤軍のメンバー5人が、“あさま山荘”に侵入、管理人の妻・小雀真理子さんを人質に立てこもった。山荘は雪と氷に閉ざされ、外はマイナス10度を超える極寒の地。警察側は多数の警官を動員して周囲を包囲するものの、人質と大量の武器を抱えた犯人相手に容易に近づくことが出来ずにいた。この時、現場のNo.2として指揮を執る佐々淳行は後藤田正晴警察庁長官より「人質の救出」「犯人の生け捕り」など6項目からなる指示を受ける。しかし、銃器の使用に関して佐々が求めた現場の判断に任せるとの意見は却下される。
