正月もオープン戦も、相変わらずパッとしない我らがタブチくん。'79年のペナントレースも決まり、西武ナインは日々消化試合。オフにはタブチのトレードも噂されたが、元気に海外キャンプへ出発した。ところがアリゾナにまでヤスダがまとわりついて来たり、どうやら今年も天中殺か。シーズンに入ると、日本ハムの新人キダに軽々とひねられ、どうもさいさきがよくない。案の定、西武は優勝をのがし、'80年ペナントレースも暮れていく。

熾烈な戦いを続けるパリーグのペナントレース。だが、あい変わらず絶不調のタブチのおかげでライオンズは連敗続きだ。ヤスダが履歴書を持って球場にやってきたり、ドカベンの言葉に刺激を受けたノムラが急にハッスルしたりと、タブチの影も薄くなりがち。困りはてたネモト監督とツツミオーナーは、タブチの魅力を訴えようと”タブチデー”を企画するが、大失敗に終わってしまう。そんなとき、ミヨ子夫人がなんとチアガールになって現れた。

西武ライオンズの、”打てない、走れない、守れない”の3拍子揃ったタブチ選手。大好物は小手指名物のタコヤキ。つい食べ過ぎてブクブク肥り、打撃不調の原因になってしまう。そんなタブチにネモト監督、ツツミオーナーはハラハラ、ライオンズも連敗続きだ。おまけに、ときどき邪魔しにくるヤクルトのヤスダやヒロオカ元ヤクルト監督も気になる。でもタブチは負けない。ミヨ子夫人の愛に支えられ、今日も彼のバットは空を切る・・・・。

昭和二十五年に起った天銀堂殺人事件の容疑者、元子爵椿英輔は忌わしい嫌疑を恥辱としてか信州で自殺をとげたが、夫人[火禾]子は今尚英輔の幻影に悩まされていた。令嬢美彌子の頼みで名探偵金田一耕助は一夜椿邸で行われた目賀博士の砂占いに列席した。集った人達は[火禾]子、美彌子、目賀博士の他、[火禾]子の叔父玉虫元伯爵と妾菊江、[火禾]子の兄新宮利彦と妻はな、道楽息子の一彦、椿家執事木下善四郎、書生三島東太郎などであったが、博士の占い通りその夜玉虫伯爵は何者かに殺害された。耕助は英輔の日記の空白を手がかりに神戸に赴き、以前英輔が別邸の管理人植辰の妹お駒を尋ねる目的があった事を調べ上げる。お駒も既に殺害されていたが、お駒の養子宗二郎が失踪している事と、妙光院の痣とり地蔵尊の裏面に彫られた文字から秘密を嗅ぎ出し、急拠東京へ引返す。しかし椿邸では新宮利彦が殺されていた。居並ぶ人々の前で三島青年が動揺しているのを見届けた耕助は逮捕状を携えて再度椿邸の門を潜るが、一同は鎌倉の別邸に行った後だった。その頃鎌倉では新宮利彦と[火禾]子の間に兄妹姦淫の子として生れた三島青年実は宗二郎が、目賀博士と[火禾]子に詰めよっていた。驚いた[火禾]子は青酸カリの盛られた鎮静剤を飲んで一瞬にして絶命。直後到着した耕助は一同の前で始めて事件の顛末を発表した。－－今から二十数年前、[火禾]子は兄利彦に犯されて一児を生み落し、叔父玉虫伯爵はその子を宗二郎と名付け植辰の妹お駒に預けたが、椿家財産横領を企む目賀博士は宗二郎が幼年で死んだ後、植辰と謀ってその子治雄の片腕に火焔太鼓の痣を彫りつけて宗二郎に仕立て上げ、椿家乱倫の実状を明かして復讐を誓わせたのである。かくて真相を知らぬ治雄を三島東太郎の仮名で椿家の書生に送りこんだ目賀博士は英輔に[火禾]子の行状を告げて自殺に追い込み、その亡霊の恐怖を利用して玉虫伯爵、利彦、お駒、[火禾]子と次々に殺害したのである。鋭い耕助の推理と植辰の証言に、目賀博士は拳銃を取って乱射するが、耕助の反撃に挫け、遂に警官に捕われた。...

The film is set in Karafuto after the radio broadcast of the Imperial Rescript on the Termination of the War. On August 15, 1945, Soviet forces invaded Karafuto. On August 20, the postal telegraph office in Maoka suspended operations and nine of the twelve telephone operators committed suicide by taking potassium cyanide while the city was being invaded.

太平洋戦争下の南方ニューギニアのラエ基地に夏堀（長谷川明男）や山県（青山良彦）らが赴任し、零戦の名パイロット梶大尉（本郷功次郎）の厳しい訓練を受ける。やがて梶は戦死。夏堀は戦地を転々とし、やがて神風特別攻撃隊の護衛隊の任を受けるが……。 それまで青春色の強い戦争映画を主に製作していた大映が『大怪獣ガメラ』などで培った特撮技術を駆使して描いた戦争アクション映画。特撮の主眼はもちろんモノクロ映像を効果的に活かした零戦などの空中戦で、担当は築地米三郎。実写フィルムとの融合にもさほど違和感はない。ポスターなどのビリングでは本郷功次郎が主役のようだが、実質の主役は長谷川明男。当時の大映若手スターの世代代わりを象徴しているかのようでもある。

山本周五郎原作の『赤ひげ診療譚』を基に、巨匠・黒澤明監督が三船敏郎、加山雄三主演で映画化したヒューマニズム溢れる人情ドラマ。江戸時代の小石川養生所を舞台に、そこを訪れる庶民の人生模様と通称赤ひげと呼ばれる所長と青年医師の心の交流を描く。長崎で和蘭陀医学を学んだ青年・保本登は、医師見習いとして小石川養生所に住み込むことになる。養生所の貧乏くささとひげを生やし無骨な所長・赤ひげに好感を持てない保本は養生所の禁を犯して破門されることさえ望んでいた。しかし、赤ひげの診断と医療技術の確かさを知り、また彼を頼る貧乏な人々の姿に次第に心を動かされていくのだった……。
