Tai-shian is locked away in his own autistic universe, totally lost to the world. His parents spend every day looking after him, rendering Tai-shian’s little sister Debby completely invisible to her parents…until one day, when both parents are gone, and Debby finds a new task thrust upon her.

Yeh, a gifted student, transfers to Edison Junior High, a private school renowned for its academic performance. Disturbed by the gloomy atmosphere and distorted institutions, the rebellious Yeh begins to challenge everything he sees and feels. Little does he know that he is slowly falling into the treacherous trap of the mysterious "Dorm 420".

Ah-Zhou, who is about to be honorably discharged from the military service, has a surreal dream. In the dream he sees the dead body of Shing-Shing Chen, a classmate in elementary school from years back. Is this dream implying that Shing-Shing Chen might have died? Soon afterwards, Ah-Zhou gets an unexpected five-day vacation and decides to look for Shing-Shing Chen. Nevertheless, he quickly learns that the special vacation is for him and another soon-to-be-discharged solider, Xiao-Gui, to go after a deserter, Kuen-He, who ran away with weapons two days ago. Both of them are worried about this assignment because they, the old birds, used to pick on Kuen-He, a spring chicken. And Kuen-He is now a deserter, armed and dangerous.

The film sketches the lives and tribulations of some of those kids the college girl on summer break, the boys from the neighbouring province who only want to do hip-hop and through them we get a real glimpse of what makes Shanghai today a promising big city.

村から北京に出稼ぎに来て、自転車宅配便の仕事をすることにした17歳の少年グイ（ツイ・リン）。毎日懸命に働くグイだったが、ある日何者かに自転車を盗まれてしまう。一方、仲間たちの中で一人だけ自転車を持っていない高校生ジェン（リー・ピン）は親に内緒で中古自転車を購入。それは、グイが盗まれた自転車だった。

Man-Li always lives in the normal track as everybody considers. After graduating from school to society, she keeps each job with caution and fear. Unless she finds a new job, she won’t quit the current one easily. This time is quite different. She resigned and had no idea what to do next. She just thought to make a change of her lifestyle. However, what will it look like? She doesn’t know either. Her boyfriend proposed the thought of getting married. She doesn’t feel like working but it doesn’t necessarily mean that she has to choose marriage. All of this is because of the space she longs for. On the contrary, she doesn’t know what to do. Only she can do is in a daze!Waves kept patting the seashore of the night dream……a feeling was gradually brewed, swelled, unlimitedly developed and grew in strength! What does the voice of waves in the dream draw on earth?

In the final days of the year 1999, almost everyone in Taiwan has died from a strange plague that ravished the island. As rain pours down relentlessly, a single man is stuck with an unfinished plumbing job and a hole in his floor. This results in a very odd relationship with the woman who lives below him.
