젊은 지휘자 안드레아는 벨렌과 연인사이다. 어느 날 벨렌은 이별의 영상편지만을 남기고 떠난다. 실연의 아픔과 상실감에 괴로워 하던 안드레아 앞에 파비아나가 나타나고 안드레아의 여자친구 벨렌이 실종상태인걸 알면서도 안드레아와 교제를 시작한다. 그러는 와중 벨렌으로 추정되는 시체가 발견되는데...

수도원에 한 여인이 들러온다. 그 여인은 밤마다 악몽에 시달리며 "디셔"라는 비명을 지르며 깨어난다. 그를 딱하게 여긴 수도원의 티모시 신부님은 어린 시절 수도원에서 유년기를 보냈던 마이크 처치에게 그녀의 가족을 찾아달라고 부탁한다. 그리하여 기억 상실증에 걸린 여인과 처치와의 만남은 시작된 것. 어느날 신문 광고를 보고 골동품점을 하는 최면술사인 매드슨이 나타나 그녀에게 최면을 걸어 신분을 알아내려 한다. 하지만, 이상하게 그녀는 현재의 생이 아닌 전생에서의 삶을 기억하게 된다. 그녀는 최면 속에서 로먼 스트리우스와 마가렛 스트라우스라는 부부의 살인 사건을 떠올리게 된다. 결국 그녀가 전생에서 이 살인 사건과 연관이 있다는 사실을 알게 되는데..
