락 밴드 단원인 듀이 핀 (잭 블랙 분)은 로커 답지 않게 뚱뚱하고 촌스러운 외모 때문에 밴드에서 쫒겨 난다. 월세까지 밀리자, 그는 급한 김에 친구 네드의 이름을 사칭하고, 호레이스 그린 초등학교의 대리교사로 취직한다. 수업 첫날부터, 공부를 가르칠 생각은 않고 시간 때울 궁리만 하던 듀이는 기발하고 엉뚱한 생각을 하게 되는데 앞으로 열릴 락 밴드 경연대회에 자기가 가르치는 학생들과 함께 참석하려는 것! 클래식기타와 피아노, 첼로, 심벌즈 등의 악기를 다뤄본 애들을 뽑아, 리드 기타, 베이스 기타, 키보드, 드럼을 가르치고, 다른 아이들에겐 백 보컬, 매니저, 코디, 장비 담당 등의 일을 맡긴다. 3주동안, 듀이와 아이들은 여자 교장 멀린스 (조안 쿠삭 분)의 눈을 피해 교실에서 락 음악을 연습하고, 드디어 오디션 접수까지 끝낸다. 마침내, 경연대회가 있던 날, 듀이가 가짜 선생임을 알게 된 학부모들은 멀린스 교장을 앞세우고 대회장으로 쳐들어 오는데.

A gang of city children is secretly practicing to enter a musical competition. All of them plunder their parents' supplies in order to build their own stage and amplifiers. Baffled by these unexplained thefts, the parents decide to hold a meeting as their suspicions turn to a group of camper folks living across from their flat. The tables are turned when the residents take a camping holiday of their own and end up being mistrusted by the locals as much as they themselves did their own neighbors. Meanwhile, the children's gang meets a rival group of kids who are planning to enter the same competition.

라스베가스 최고의 인기 가수가 된 들로리스에게 어느 날 수녀님들이 찾아와 도움을 청한다. 자신들이 선생으로 있는 학교의 아이들에게 음악을 가르쳐 달라는 것. 옛 정 때문에 할 수 없이 다시 수녀복을 입게 된 들로리스는 초반부터 못 말리는 문제아들에게 골탕을 먹고 두 손을 들고 만다. 그러나 우연히 학교의 이사가 학교를 폐쇄하려고 한다는 사실을 알게 된 들로리스는 다른 수녀님들과 힘을 합해 학교를 살리기로 마음먹고 특유의 끼를 발동한다. 아이들이 모두 음악에 소질이 있다는 걸 발견한 들로리스는 합창단을 만드는데, 처음에는 적대적이었던 학생들도 자신들의 숨은 재능을 발견해내고 희망을 갖게해 준 들로리스에게 마음을 열기 시작한다. 들로리스와 수녀님들은 합창대회에 참가해서 좋은 성적을 거두면 아이들에게도 자신감이 생기고 학교를 살리는데도 도움이 될 거라는 생각에 대회 참가를 추진하는데, 막상 대회가 열리는 날 들로리스가 클럽 가수라는 걸 알게 된 이사장과 교장은 합창단의 참가를 저지하러 출동한다. 한편 학생들은 다른 팀의 공연을 본 후 지레 겁을 먹고 포기하려하고, 들로리스는 아이들에게 용기를 불어넣어준다. 결국 아이들은 멋진 공연을 펼쳐 우승하고 학교의 폐교결정도 취소된다. 피날레를 장식하는 화려한 공연, "오 해피데이"와 찬송가 "기뻐하며 경배하세"를 비롯해 여러 귀에 익은 곡들이 어깨를 들썩이게 한다.

Karina arrives to a mansion to work as a governess of a group of singing children. She must take care of their education, and she decides to use music to teach them. Meanwhile, the record company where the children work is busy with another project. Their biggest star, Marta, is getting ready a song to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 1971. Carlos, the composer of the song, titled "En un mundo nuevo" ("In a new world") meets Karina in the mansion and starts feeling affection to the girl, something Marta, who is Carlos' girlfriend doesn't like at all.
